You can definitely get a dac at a later stage. These will sound great straight from the mobo. But they would always sound better with proper amplification and a dac.

I used to play this headphone from my iPhone to give you an idea.

Yeah! They are accurate, reference style phones though, so might be a bit 'boring' at times.

But they are super super comfortable and the drivers are far enough away from your ears so the sound stage is nice and wide. I still have a pair at the office and would never sell them.

Search Z reviews on youtube and check out his review of these headphones. A bit dated video, but the thoughts still hold true.
