NVIDIA RTX 40 series thread

This is gonna sound salty, but I hope the 18 FPS was worth the R33k you spent to get it @jlarsa

It's 45FPS with DLSS 2.0 Balanced.

With 3.0 it's fantastic. And of course 3.0 is limited to RTX 40.
With my RTX 4080 at 4K, the game ran at about 79 FPS when taking advantage of DLSS 3.0 which once again really made playing this game in 4K a reality. For reference, without DLSS 3.0 turned on, I was only able to get about 32 FPS which wildly changed the experience, and I would have had to drop it down from 4K without the brilliance that is DLSS 3.0.

79FPS at 4K in the most intensive game around. The 4080 impresses again.

People having more money than sense is exactly what Jensen Huang hoped for. This is his exact words in a interview in Aug 2022.

Yes. Thanks, Colette. C.J., our sell-through is off the highs in the beginning of the year, but it’s still very solid. In fact, sell-through is -- has increased 70% since pre-COVID, pre-pandemic. And so, it’s very clear that gaming is -- the fundamentals of gaming are strong, and this medium is really doing well. Not to mention the gaming platforms are being used -- our gaming PCs are being used for influencers, people sharing content, creating content, V bloggers, VTuber, there’s all kinds of new ways of engaging and spending time with video games. Our strategy is to reduce the sell-in -- reduce the sell-in this quarter, next quarter to let channel inventory correct. Obviously, we’re off the highs, and the macro condition turned sharply worse. And so, our first strategy is to reduce sell-in in the next couple of quarters to correct channel inventory. We’ve also instituted programs to price position our current products to prepare for next-generation products. Ampere is the most popular GPU we’ve ever created. It is in the top 15 most popular gaming GPUs on Steam. And it remains the best GPUs in the world, and it will be very successful for some time. However, we do have exciting new next-generation coming and it’s going to be layered on top of that. And so, we’ve taken -- we’ve done two things. We’ve reduced sell-in to let channel inventory correct and we’ve implemented programs with our partners to price position the products in the channel in preparation for our next generation. All of this we anticipate were working towards a path to being in a good shape going into next year. Okay? So, that’s what our game plan is. -- NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang on Q2 2023 Results - Earnings Call Transcript

I can't comprehend why people would reward Nvidia when they are taking stupid to a new level: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 with Nearly Half its Power-limit and Undervolting Loses Just 8% Performance

People throwing stupid money at Nvidia and expecting the gaming industry to be ok in the long run is like people voting for the ANC and thinking the economy will be ok in the long run.

Difference is that the HD800S doesn't become obsolete or slower in a few years time, AND it was cheaper can you believe!

Wow, so there are people out there who will buy R27000 earphones despite their horrible value for money. Yikes.

Although I don’t disagree, all industries and fields inevitably and eventually get poisoned by human greed. Humans are shitty at their core (I’m sorry everyone), and we are prone to ruining things. There is no thing we’ve created that remains untainted. That’s the sad reality. If NVIDIA disappears, someone else will just take their place. Gaming was always doomed to turn into a means of ripping gamers’ eyes out.

Actually was R18k but yeah, they are headphones that are way off on the end of the spectrum of paying a lot more for a lot less value. Thing is though, they aren't advertised as a mid-range product that is supposed to be better value for money. This isn't like Sennheiser released the HD660 and increased the price from ~$350 to $700. Plus, their performance doesn't change over time. They will sound as great as they do now as when the first iteration was released back in 2009.

You continue to miss the point, I don't have an issue with TOTL products that have bad value for money. I have an issue with products that are historically supposed to be good value for money being price gouged because they (Nvidia) know that suckers will pay anything to have the latest and (somewhat) greatest. I have an issue with the RTX 4080 being sold for CA$2k, whereas I get get an RTX 4090 for CA$2.2-5k. The price:value for this generation of xx80 cards is horendous and people should not be supporting these horrible business practices - but here we are.

Well the 7900 XTX just dropped and it looks on par with the 4080 for a good chunk less money.

so the summary is this

Non rtx … 7900xtx better value than the 4080 (about the same performance)
Rtx … 4080 better (and some times not a lot better)

Bottom line 4080 value is not there seriously … but some fan noise ramping and coil noise on the 7900xtx

So 4090 it is lol …

Edit: if I was buying and value (if one can call it that) was in the equation

Yeahp, I came to the same conclusion. The 4090 is the only big leap forward while at the same time I will never spend that kind of money on a GPU as i just hate being fleeced. This gen is turning out quite meh.

Better rename those:
7900XTX -> 7900XT
7900XT -> 7800XT

What's also interesting to me is that one really needs to have one of the latest CPUs (7000 Series/13th Gen) to fully utilize the 7900XTX/4090/4080 class cards. The 5800X, as show in the Techpowerup review, is actually holding the 7900XTX back quite a bit.

@Spanky , Im pretty certain the 5800X3D will be good for 7900XTX as Hardware Unboxed tested the 7900XTX with it and got good results overall.

Has anyone heard anything regarding pricing and availability locally about the new AMD cards?

look that 7900 xtx is pretty disappointing, if the rasterized performance was slightly below 4090 I would've overlooked the kak ray tracing performance, but alas both the 7900xtx and 4080 is kak value. 4090 it is.

4090 is literally the only card worth the cash this gen so far.

Imma wait for people to start defaulting on their homes and hopefully can pick up a 4090 for cheap

They're a lot cheaper than the 4080 here, feeling bad for 4080 owners now.

4080s are coming in at around CA$2000 (+-10%), seeing 7900 XTXs come in at CA$1250-1500. So the loss of RT performance while saving $500-750 is worth it IMO. This generation sucks full-stop, and I don't picture keeping a GPU from it (either 4000 or 7000 series) for long but it would be a good stop-gap to get off my 1080 Ti finally.

SA is a different story, saving R3799 for the Raytracing performance of a generation ago, no DLSS, no Frame Generation, no NVIDIA reflex, worse power efficiency, much higher idle power consumption, much higher transient spikes, the list goes on.

I think 4080 owners feel quite fine.

Also, AMD is just as capitalistic as NVIDIA. The 7900XT is not a x900XT card, it's a x800XT card with a higher price tag lol. Getting screwed on both sides.

Any AIB 4080 you want is well above 30k so the saving is actually like 10k realistically, and your "list" has a number of technologies AMD has their own version of so I am not sure why you are stating no XYZ. unless you were expecting them to name it the same thing. That being said I cant attest to how good they are vs Nvidia`s as I'm using a 3080.

At the end the choice is who do you want to get screwed by this gen, a little less on AMD`s side but screwed none the less.
