Ok so I have got a I5 760 on a MSI P55GD65 motherboard, if I currently use OC genie I get 3.4 Ghz and my temperature using a Antec Kuhler 620 at the moment is at 51 Degrees max, I want to clock it at 4.0 Ghz so what do I need to do. Once again I am a complete novice. Advice would be appreciated!

Took it up to 3.8 using plus button on motherboard!

I had that same CPU not too long ago with an Asus P7P55 LX. I remember being able to get it stable at 4.0Ghz on stock cooler when it was new, and had to go Corsair h80 as it got older to keep the temps down. In terms of advice, I'd recommend using the bios to OC instead of the OC genie software. Also step it up slowly and monitor temps carefully to prevent frying something. That said, I think you'll be fairly safe with the Kuhler 620, but rather safe than sorry.

An idea of my OC was, if I remember correctly, CPU Ratio (Multiplier) = 20, BCLK Frequency = 200mhz, Ram I had to bring down to 1600Mhz again cause when you increase the clock, the speed of the memory also went up (Hopefully you have 1600Mhz memory), and I think I had vcore set to about 1.3v.

Good luck

So I do have the 1600 Mhz Gskill Ram (12 Gb's) if that means anything. If I go into the Bios will I find all there? otherwise for now I will settle for 3.8 Ghz!

Firestrm. He seems to get anything out of anything. Maybe he can help, if of course he isn't too busy trying to find some n00b in Cherno :/

So what program can I use to put 100% load on the CPU?

in the bois you can change the settings manually, instead of using a program to do it for you, basically you will be doing what the program does (but better) although it is more complex. you actually need to understand what you are doing, its more than just hitting a button. its changing a setting, booting, running a stability test, then going back to bois and repeating in small increments until you get what you want.
i would go into more detail, but i dont overclock intel i series chips...you could look for some guides/vids on the web, just search "how to overclock intel i5 cpu" and you should find more than enough info, then when you get stuck you can come check back here.

I am now thinking of leaving it at 3.8 Ghz and my next future change would be to replace my 2 X GTX460 SLI configuration to a good single graphics card. As I am primarely a gamer I think the system then would suffice and would stand like this

3.8Ghz CPU
12 Ghz Ram (1600 Mhz)
GPU ? (current GTX460 SLI)
Antec Kuhler 620
1000 W PSU

I think that would be ok, dont you think!

your system, was never under powered, there was no real need for overclocking...
it is easiest to leave the clocks where they are,and its still not bad...

Thanks man, for a novice everything seems underpowered till the informed enlightens them:rolleyes:

@Ojo, so I got my 4.0GHz overclock and now I will wait till GTX7XX comes out and buy your guys cards that you are gonna put up for sale!
