Its been forever since I built a machine as I'm gaming primarily with my laptop these days. The last machine I built for myself was my main gaming rig that was converted into my previous HTPC which was based around an Opteron 170 so it was long overdue for an upgrade. I purchased the components around the end of last year and have been tweaking airflow to try and optimise cooling but this heat isn't helping at all.

This is the first time I'm creating a thread like this, but this case is just too gorgeous not to share with you fine pc nutters The internals are pretty much standard components. There's no custom braided cabling or anything like that although I would like to get around to it once I have some time. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out although its painful thinking about opening it up again cos the space to work in is almost almost non existant

In hind sight I should have went with 2x4GB* but I'm not really using this machine for anything apart from HTPC duty, media encodes and in the near future, gaming so it should suffice for now. I use Media Browser with the Shark007 codec pack and Media Centre Master for meta data. Generally when I use the machine VLC is my go to media player.

Things on my to do list:
Repaste northbridge heatsink
Try out two slim 120mm fans in a push/pull config to see if it helps CPU temps.
Get a good low profile GPU. I'd like the AFOX HD7850 low profile but cant it afford it right now.
Change both storage drives to green 3TB's to reduce heat.

I've used Shin Etsu X23D thermal paste on the CPU and its idling around +-40c with a load temp of 70c after 10 mins of Blend and a load temp of 80c with IBT's standard test. HDD's temps get to a max of 39c on the 3TB (Fan directly underneath) and 43c on the 2TB.

Although today I noticed the CPU idle up to +-45c... and I have the mobo set up to kick the fans on full once the CPU hits 45c. Problem is the mobo is reading the CPU temp as 40c I need to check if there's an offset I can adjust.

I did check the BIOS for a CPU temp offset but there isn't any option so I may have to use Speedfan. Any suggestions on how to drop temps further would be really appreciated.

I imported it through FrozenCPU. It wasn't cheap but I figured since I haven't built a machine in so long I deserved it
