I recently purchased myself a used entry level gaming PC and going through all the usual (and not so usual) pains of getting everything to work as it should.

I am not receiving any sound from the audio jack (front and rear) using standard cellphone earbuds. List of my actions so far:
1. Changed the Audio to "Enabled" in the BIOS from previous "Auto".
2. Tried uninstalling the Realtek HD Audio controller with the Device Manager - Scanned for hardware changes and then reinstalled
This did not work and the icon in the Device Manager had some kind of warning sign to it afterwards (cant remember exactly how it looked)
3. Next I went to my motherboard website and downloaded the Realtek drivers via the support page for my specific board
I ran the installation (and received an error). Ran installation again and the setup informed that previous drivers will be uninstalled. Then the setup installed the drivers again with no error. Prompted to restart and I did.
After restarting, the sound still wasn't working with the little cross next to the sound icon in the bottom right tray. Now also the Realtek HD Audio controller is no longer present in the Device Manager - so I am unable to uninstall the driver as it is no longer there. Reinstalling the downloaded driver, simply installs the driver (does not uninstall) and the same problem persist.
4. I have also tried the 'Add legacy hardware' in the Device Manager, but this failed. The Realtek controller is also not present when viewing hidden devices.

Anyone that may have some advice for what I can do next?

Hi

The headphones that you are using, do they include the mic or they just normal stereo headphones?
I have had issues in the past were my PC wouldn't play any sound when using my cellphone headphones.

As for your driver issue you can try https://sdi-tool.org/
This is a great tool for driver updates or not been able to find a driver. (see few posts down on how to use the tool)

Thanks for the reply. I think they are just normal earphones and they also work with a USB audio dongle as well as on another motherboard. Unfortunately the tool you linked was stopped by my PC as "Failed - Virus detected". LOL

I have also now tried updating my Windows from version 1903 to 2004. This unfortunately failed and Windows went on to "Undoing changes made to your computer". So that was another couple hours down the drain.

Do they work if you plug them in the rear port? In the sound settings, are there multiple devices to choose from/change?

Weird it picked it up as a virus. As i use this app on all my PC's when i have issues and client PC's.

If you willing to give it another try i have left steps below on how to use the tool.

Go to https://sdi-tool.org/download/
select the LITE version.
unzip the file
When you run the program a window will open(SDI_x64_R2000.exe). Select download index only (should be 17MB download)
Once completed you will see it list all the drivers for any PC.
Near the top you will see an option with a purple bar that says "51 Driver packs. Click here to download" Click on the green text "download".
A new window will open. on the bottom left select "This PC only" and click OK
This will now download all the drivers needed for your PC only and not the full 20GB driver set.
Once done select "create a restore point" at the top and then you can pick from the list below to only update your audio driver or at the top click select all and then install. (I pick select all and then install as that updates all driver and will add missing ones. Dont forget the restore point box!!!!)

Once the install is completed reboot the PC and you should have all the correct driver on you Machine.

Last question is when you plug headphone into the Jack does the AC driver pop up and say it found a device. I have the same AC chip-set on my old PC and it will pop up with a window asking if it is a headset or speakers.

Hope this help. if not then maybe the port has popped. Lets hope for the best.

Good luck

OMW, just found out from previous owner that the onboard sound card is faulty . So many hours wasted for nothing. Would have been nice if he mentioned it when I purchased it after I asked if there was any problems with the PC. Seems I will be looking for sound cards now. Thanks for the help though.
