Hello,

I've had a Dell U2412M monitor for years and years and I'm looking at maybe upgrading it.

My requirements are excellent display quality and I've been looking at maybe going up to 27". Higher resolution would be nice.

I play games casually (like Witcher 3, CS GO, etc.) and I use it also for productivity and some work.

I have a GTX 1060 6GB.

What would you recommend in the R5000-R7000 range?

I run a 27" 1440p 144hz and a GTX 1060 at work. Surprisingly OK, for games that matter, I lower detail to get high FPS, for story type games, who cares 60 FPS is enough. SO... Good luck!

With a GTX 1060 I would get a high FPS 1080p monitor and save the extra cash. Getting a higher res display, while only being able to drive a 1080p game at reasonable settings doesn't make sense. Just my 2c

Those new 240Hz 1080p displays might be worth looking at

With a 144Hz display, getting only 60FPS means your frames are on screen for more than two refresh cycles... not ideal. If you're going 144Hz, at least have something worth looking at! :p

Or better yet, one of those 144Hz+ IPS displays. Worth it for the major screen quality improvement.

Bear in mind that I'm not gaming only on this. I also want nice resolution to work on so I can fit a lot on one screen.

A 240hz doesn't make sense unless you can get 240 FPS

In certain games I still cant run everything at max and keep at 100FPS constant on my screen haha. SO ja, 3440x1440p and 100FPS is a difficult task indeed hahaha.....

This also looks nice, although the samsung I linked previously I prefer the design: AOC CQ27G2 27" WQHD (2560x1440) 144Hz 1ms VA 1500R Curved FreeSync HDR Gaming Desktop Monitor - Wootware
This looks very nice but the price is a bit high for what you're getting. The Samsung doesn't come with a conventional stand, right?

No, clip on stand, which would actually work well on my desk. This also looks amazing but it's out of stock: takealot.com

Does anyone know if the ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD will be available in South Africa?

I can only find the 1080p one

Thoughts on Dell S2719DGF vs AOC CQ27G1 ?

I used to own the Dell S2719DGF. It's a good monitor with very good colours. It's a TN panel so viewing angles aren't at all good. Not a problem if you're sitting directly in front of it. Main reason I sold it was because of the brightness.

I'm concerned about gamma shift even sitting directly in front i.e. things appearing different on the top and bottom of the monitor.

I'm currently trying to decide between the Samsung Space 27" and this Dell S2719DGF

AFAIK that Samsung space monitor does not have Freesync or Gsync so will be crappy unless you can maintain 1440p 144Hz which you will never do. You will need a 2070s or something to do that.

The Dell S2719DGF is fine but you will notice poorer colour coming from a u2412m. If you don't have an IPS right next to it you might not mind.

Everyone wants a 1440p 144Hz IPS panel but there are not a lot of them around. Quite a few people have imported this one for about R7k.

Question, how serious about gaming are you? If you are super casual you might not need 144hz. You will need to upgrade your GPU to get 144Hz anyway.

Left field option:
27 inch 4k HDR IPS with Freesync. 4k IPS for everyday use goodness and then you can play games at 1080 with some freesync support.
From what I have seen, 1080 looks better on a 4k monitor compared to a 1440p monitor as the number of pixels is simply divided by 4.

I'm not a competitive gamer, but I do play quite a few games. At the moment I'm enjoying The Witcher 3.

The Samsung does have freesync, so that would work, but I'm also concerned about the mounting and height which can't be adjusted very well unless you bring the monitor further or nearer to you.

I kind of want 144hz as I believe it makes everyday use a lot smoother which I'm keen for, and for a bit of future proofing for when I upgrade my graphics card. The Dell is the cheapest for those specs I have found.

The LG looks great but importing now is going to be a nightmare and the exchange rate is atrocious.

If you go IPS it seems you pay a LOT more for the 144hz.

@brawler you actually make a good point. Maybe it's worth my while sticking at 60hz and going for a bigger screen.

Will I even notice the upgrade to 144hz in day-to-day use? Especially with a GTX 1060 I won't be running games at full fps until I upgrade.

Yeah you will notice it but 60hz is absolutely fine for everything not gaming related and even gaming, it's only worth it if you are playing fps competitively.

Where from?
I got mine from this place as it was bit cheaper than the rest. No longer listed.

Takealot does have it listed but no stock.

So, I purchased the Dell s2719DGF, and I'm not so impressed. Turns out I don't really notice much of a difference between 60hz and 144hz for it to be a necessity, and compared to my U2412M, it doesn't hold a candle to the colours and contrast. So I guess what I need to do is look at screens with fantastic image quality and I only need 60hz.
