Hi all,

So I'm having this issue with my machine and I'm uncertain what the issue could be, ever since installing a new CPU/Cooler I've been having a CPU fan error in BIOS whenever i startup the machine. This is a side note because the machine works fine for 5-6 months.

I'm now having an issue where my PC just reboots on startup, it will be on for 5 minutes and then reboot, This has happened before and I removed 1 RAM stick and the issue subsided for a month, now its acting up again. I have re-seated the RAM and tried different RAM and the issue is still persisting.

I replaced the PSU recently and I dont think this could be the issue, if anyone knows what I could try and do to diagnose the problem that would be appreciated.

Specs:

ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero (Wi-Fi) Z390 Gaming Motherboard LGA1151
Intel Core i9-9900K Desktop Processor 8 Cores up to 5.0 GHz Turbo unlocked LGA1151 300 Series 95W
HyperX Predator DDR4 RGB 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 3600MHz Memory
Corsair RM1000X 1000w 80 PLUS Gold Power Supply
GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti Gaming OC 11G
COOLER MASTER MASTERLIQUID ML360R RGB

Edit* seems like the machine cuts off, and then starts up again

What are your temps on the cpu like?
Maybe check the event logs to see what error you got at time of shutdown. I'm my opinion it could be high temps on the cpu or perhaps a failing power supply.

So it is happening with your new power supply?

What is ur aio pump speed in bios?check that ur pump is actually operating..also the fan error you can turn off in bios under hw monitoring ,select ignore cpu fan,i would assume you using the aio pump header to power your pump?

Try plugging your PSU power plug into a wall socket/extension without anything connected to the same extension or wall socket e.g. monitors, routers, etc. Sometimes your PC isn’t getting enough power if there is tons of stuff drawing from the same power outlet. Let me know how it goes or if it’s already plugged in like that. :)

Hi all, just an update. My motherboard fried, there was smoke and all and now I'm afraid to turn it on as it might damage my other components.

So I've contacted ASUS support to assist me.
Where did you buy the motherboard?

I’m not sure if you are experiencing a thermal issue. Since you mentioned installing a new cooler, you started getting fan errors. Did you make sure enough/correct thermal paste was used and that the fan headers were connected correctly? I think your CPU might of fried your MB but the only way to know is if it will turn on. Hope you still have warranty on the MB if so. :(

@samuraichick0n drop me a pm and you can bring your pc around to my place as I also stay in Kraaifontein then I can check and see what could be causing the issues you are experiencing.
Your best option..let @ThanaToeter_ZA examine that board to see what burnt first before you try anything further

generally this should not happen, atleast I have not had a case where overheating cpu fried a mobo in the last 10 years or so, even my stupid old 775 would just power trip before it damaged the board, and that was when running the cpu with no cooler on at all.

What most likely happened is the PSU fried (much more likely imo), or psu is one of those crappy brands that resulted in the board frying (again not something I have experienced even with very shitty psu's)

But yea, if you want you can bring your box around to my place and I can have a look as I have a few spare parts to check with, and seeing as I will be rebuilding my system over the next few days, now would be the perfect time :)

Had a buddy have a similar issue because of "dirty" power in the complex he was in..turned out it was the actual wiring in his apartment that fried 2 psus and a mobo..so also an avenue the train can explore :geek:

I guess 'dirty' power along with a crappy psu could theoretically fry a board along with the psu, but yea, will be able to know for sure by having a look.

His psu was a brand new sealed unit rma from Frontosa CT if memory serves me well enough decent brand too think his prev psu was a Cooler Master V1000 unless they gave him some thing else

Update:

I contacted Asus and they responded with the below;

I am sorry to hear that you are facing an issue with your Asus ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI) product. In this case do not turn on the computer anymore and immediately contact your place of purchase for an inspection. I’m sorry to inform you that ASUS does not handle the warranty process directly when it comes to PC components, peripherals or routers. This is handled by retailers via their purchase chain. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please take note of the Official ASUS Statement regarding PC components, peripherals and routers:

"ASUS do not handle the warranty process for your product directly and we advise that you contact your retailer who will support you during the full warranty period of your product and will be able to arrange a repair or replacement via their distribution channels if the product is still within its warranty period."

I then contacted Amazon, and they advised that they cannot help me as they offer a 30 day return policy and I will need to go to Asus.

Well I guess I'm never going to get helped and just have to take the hit of losing a motherboard.
