Hi All

Thinking of Switching to AMD but my knowledge is not great on AMD processors.

What in AMD CPUs is Equivalent to the Intel i7-9700 (non k) looking at something that is around the same age and performance wise in gaming to the i7.

Used only for Gaming in 1440p with 16gb 2666mhz ram. GPU on hold for now.

Thanks.

If your pc is only for gaming then stick with Intel rather imo...
Single core performance is still better or on par with AMD and has less hassles.

However if you are set on going AMD then look at the 5600x which will probably be your best bang for buck cpu for gaming on the red side.

if gaming just stay with what you have.
If you have productivity applications running, do they favour cores or frequency? i.e. does is directly benefit from frequency or does a lower freq & more cores work out better.
Frequency - stay Intel.
Anything else - Go AMD

5000 series mostly trump Intel so there is that to look out for.. but again all dependant on application.

3800X / 5900X

Not sure how the 3800X holds up to it in gaming, but I am sure the 5900X would have it beat. But keep in mind that board, CPU, cooler and RAM combo will probably set you back over 15K. Might not be worth it on the same GPU.

What this guy said.

I switched from a 9700 to a Ryzen 3600 about a year ago because I needed more threads for virtual machines.
I had a 1080 at the time and saw no difference in games at 1080p. I later switched to 1440p 144Hz and my GPU was always the bottleneck.
Benchmarks say that the 3600 is slower than the 9700 in games though so I wouldn't put them on par. Ryzen 5600 would probably be 1:1 in games.

For gaming I saw the same thing when switching from 9700k to 3950x which I needed coz more cores for workload.
So yea, if just gaming I wouldn't even bother with 5800/5900/5950x

Thanks for the responses and yes will purely be for gaming.
I have seen on reviews and benchmark tests that intel does hold its end up with regards to gaming and thats all I wanted to use it for.

Thanks will help me make my decision

On top of this, the only reason you would really go 5000 is IPC improvements.
You can still get comprable performance on those 3300/3500x with good OC's. But it is not worth the mess of changing setups for the same performance you will hardly notice unless you sit and stare at a monitoring software telling you that you are getting +-10FPS

Depends on what gen you are looking to go. 5600x is on par (Game dependant) with a 9700 but costs much less for example.

Some say the 2600x is on par with a 7700, but I'm not convinced. I feel from my experience its about 10% slower, in gaming that is. I would put the 3600 on par with a 7700 in gaming performance but much better when it comes to Productivity. - but considering you can pick up a 3600 for cheaper than a 7700 (and 7700 cant be overclocked) It's the better purchase if you are upgrading or getting a new PC

If your looking to go lateral it's not worth it.

3700x, 3800x is just more power hungry and both can OC the same. No need for 35w more power draw & 100mhz base/boost clock difference, or the price difference
