Guys i have been out this country for a long time and im finally back.

I been living in the UAE were my one villa came standard with 300Mbs fiber uncapped DSL in ABu Dhabi and at my sister in Duabi she had 100Mbs fiber Uncapped - Upload was not that great but was lighting fast.

My concern here is the following. I got the 4Meg Telkom Line installed and chose Mweb as my ISP with 4Meg package, I have been running this now for about 2 weeks only. But since yesterday my connection speeds are as follows:

Mweb:
Download:0.32Mbs
Upload: 0.42Mbs

Afrihost:
Download: 3.48Mbs
Upload: 0.42Mbs

I mean i already could not survive with the 4Meg line speed as it was already slow to what im used to. But now i can't even browse a simple thing as the internet?
Does anyone have any idea the reasoning behind this?

A bit of info on what i have downloaded so far.

Work related stuff: probably 10GB work related stuff
Steam: possibly 5-8GB
Sony PSN network: PS3 15GB-20GB
Sony PSN network: Ps4 7GB
Sony PSN network: Psvita 3GB

I have not had any torrent or nothing running at all, work stuff for me and game updates and installs for my son. Thats it!

I can't think of anything more i have used it for.....if this is just Mweb connection or i have no idea?

Is there a solution to this problem or can anyone recommended another ISP so i can cancel this with immediate effect?

Sorry im extremely noob with the ISP and internet in this country, been struggling since i got back :/

Thanking you in advance for any advice.

Go check your monthly usage on the mweb my account site. If I remember correctly if it is your first month then Mweb makes an estimation of what your usage will be at 30days. Thus if you have already downloaded 40gb(Download) how much have you uploaded. THe threshold of 110gb before you get throttled is set for upload and downloa. but it will be (Downloaded + Uploaded)/Days past*Total days for the month. If this is more than 110gb you will be throttled to death. For heavy downloads I have decided to get a capped account spare prepaid with afrihost since large downloads scew the 30 days rolling average of mweb.

I know there calculation is stupid and a 110GB threshold for 4mb line is pathetic.

I just did a search and found this topic on the forum posted by: Sirus.

Re: MWEB Regular Uncapped 10mb vs Premium Uncapped 4mb

All uncapped accounts they throttle at mweb. But premium they more lenient. From what I've seen 4mb premium you can do about 400-450gb before they throttle and standard 4mb around 120gb. Don't know about the 10mb though.

So, i take it this throttle is what they have done to me right? If so is that even legal as i have paid for "uncapped" and i have not even downloaded ANYTHING YET!?

Dont even try to down that route...they will just hit you with their fair user policy....throttling you is slowing down your connection not cutting it, so you still have uncapped.

Just move to afrihost/webafrica/etc and stay away from mweb.

WAIT WHAT? this is retarded is this even possible.....well i cant get on the accounts to even see whats going on, as i never got an email...maybe i need to create one.

Well if that is the case i will cancel the entire thing. Can anybody recommend something that does not do this?

Was on the phone with them...and they still trying to sell me a package to upgrade. They said im Throttled - now i know what that term means. Funny thing is all i was saying is i dont want to be with your degenerate company no longer just cancel. His like yea but if you upgrade then you can download about 5GB a day. Hahahah man this is amazing as much as i love this country and being back.....these kind of things Vexx me completely.

Oh well such is life i guess, i see all ISP's do this Soft cap/ Throttle thing FML

wow...5gb a day>>> i do that and more on my standard 4mb account with webafrica.

Mweb works on a 30 day cycle, so if your FUP is 100GB, if you get to use 100GB in 30days they Throttle you badly, on day 31 they give you the amount of data you used on day 1. so if you used 12gb on day 1 , on day 31 you get 12gb to use again, and on day 32 you get back the data you used on day 2 including the remaining data from day 1. and on day 33 you get back day 3 data plus the balance from day 1 and 2.........and so on....... so your FUP doesnt reset on day 31, they just count backwards 30 days and if your usuage is more than your FUP then you are Throttled.

So the only way out is to switch off your internet for a week, so that your FUP goes down to a usable level again, otherwise you could be throttled for a very long time. The only difference between Standard and Premium on Mweb is the FUP limits. you still get shaped on both packages.

Easier to just move to a different ISP. i was with Mweb for almost 6 years and after all the issues I moved to Afrihost at the beginning of this year and its been alot better.

Easy answer. Openweb.... Although other people will argue i for one have been happy with them for the last um.....say about 6months now.
The only problem is they shape during work hours. Not sure what you do and if you are working at the moment but you can download as much as your heart desires after hours, but during working hours its not the best at all.

I do an average of about 300gigs a month on my 2meg account from Openweb. Never had a days problem.

Ps.Mweb se gat....

Mweb is getting worse by the day... friend finally left them after they killed his net for the 2nd month in a row in the 2nd day of the month.

Openweb is just b.s with a cherry on top, they rely on people not to use their accounts during the day. They can shape it so badly during the day you can't load local sites.

Afrihost is ok, it isn't perfect by a long shot as at times I have to put up with 360p youtube video's but downloads and browsing is fine. Gaming is ok too...

I have been very impressed so far with telkom uncapped, my sister got it because she loves to download tv eps 24/7

during the day it is fairly fast, much faster it seems than afrihost but downloading anything is impossible till after 10pm so it fits her well :D

thanks dude i was actually looking at Telkom and at Afrihost and was leaning towards Telkom.

Dude you have got no idea how upset i am over this it has honestly made me so furious...i just dont see how they can advertise "uncapped" but we will only give you 70GB then Soft throttle then 110GB then Hard Throttle you. NO MAN WTF!

Well they are the people behind DSTV.

They have a 30 day cancellation policy, you are going to be stuck with them for another month.

I changed the account to a 1gb capped however while raping the account at the end of the month it switched to the 1gb capped account on the 1st. So you might be thinking, why is that an issue it will only use the 1gb cap?

No, mweb has a softcap on it's capped products with per meg pricing of R0.20c I was on R150 when i stopped it switched to my new uncapped account.

Imagine my surprise when I got the bill  and they were like "not our fault" I paid this by the way and I am still getting harassed by itc. I have sent them the proof of payment that I did a week after I received the bill so many times now... apparently mwebs horrible billing dept lost my pop and so they are trying to stick me with another R800 in "legal fees". Lady phoned and she convinced herself because they did not register my pop or the payment itself I am liable for all fees :D

I feel you bud, sigh i have just bought Afrihost data now and working like a bomb. I will switch to them or Telkom come the end of the month.

Best solution:

Go Afrihost Business uncapped. I was on openweb Gold 10mbps for 1 year. Was great in the beginning until about 4 months ago when they started throtteling during the day! Switched over to Afrihost 10Mbps business uncapped. Its completely unshaped and there is no Fair usage policy! Download as you want :) no throtteling nada! Last month we did about 870GB and this month the projected usage is on 915GB... There is absolutly no difference between me running a speed test during the day or at night! Normally 8.76mbps down and 0.52mbps up with ping being between 11ms and 13ms..Torrents avg at 1 to 1.1MBps depending on seeders and with business prioritation turned off(this allows me to prioritise real time traffic over torrents or not when i want to via the client zone). I am so happy with afrihost now (before this a swore i will mever leave openweb) Youtube autoloads on 1080p with no buffering after it starts playing... I play alot of fifa 14 on the xbox . My ping was normally one red bar with openweb. Now its full green bars with no lag in online play...
