As many/most of you are aware, you can insure second hand goods with couriers, but when it comes to paying out they won't, as their insurance doesn't cover used goods. The charge is normally between 2% and 2.5% ex VAT (2.5% and 2.875% including VAT), but keep in mind that this is throwing money away as their policies generally explicitly exclude payout for used goods. By selecting insurance, you're agreeing to their terms, so basically agreeing that the goods are not prohibited from insurance (i.e. new). As an example, TCG:

11.3. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained or implied in this clause 11 (eleven), No assumption of liability by TCG is extended to the following, which includes, but is not limited to: second hand consignments...

When making a claim, they request the invoice from the selling store dated no older than 7 days from date of dispatch. Without this, the claim is denied.

Would you be interested in having goods in transit insurance for such items? We're in the position to potentially offer this. The caveat is that it would have to go with our couriers. We will charge what they charge rounded to the nearest R 1, as well as the insurance amount.

Nothing is set in stone, and this might not happen at all, but it could be a nice service to offer.

Please vote in the poll :)

Which courier & what is the type of insurance policy?

Aranova, who we've used extensively for the last few months and have been reliable and consistent enough for most other courier accounts to be closed (yes, that includes your favourite - their costs are getting astronomical and deliveries after 5pm were becoming a problem), and comprehensive cover (theft as well as accidental/drop/fire/flood/etc) through third party insurance.
