Hello to anybody interested in reading this post! I hope there will be some people to help out with this possibly short lived hobby entry (although I see many people say this is a rabbit hole of note so who knows). Sorry for this long read.

So first off, I'm currently debating entering the custom keyboard world in order to replace my currently dying keyboard (or maybe get a prebuilt that can be customized in future), but the thing is I'm not too sure where to begin. I'll first start off by listing my needs with this board and then share where I'm currently at.

So as of now, my needs for this board are:
1 - Must be TKL or minimum 65% layout. From my research I've done thus far it seems 65% is the sweet spot without sacrificing too much.
2 - Must have wireless capability. I've seen some boards can do both wired and wireless so that would be a great option for flexibility but I plan to mainly go for the wireless option.
3 - Switches should allow for a good balance of typing/gaming experience. I'm not a typing wizard but I'd like it to at least be somewhat comfortable to type with if needed. My current keyboard is a Gamdias Hermes P1 with cherry brown switches so I'm open to any switch recommendations.
4 - Mustn't be too pricey. I don't mind if I end up enjoying the hobby so much that i sink money in down the line but right now I'm hoping to aim for something relatively bang for buck/budget. (I feel like R2000 is a solid amount to start but I don't mind shooting further than that depending on feedback given)

Here is where I'm at:
1 - I've got a Gamdias Hermes P1 with cherry brown switches i believe. Its a full size board and I'm, looking to scale it down for more desk space. The board is purely wired and I'd love the wireless capability so i can reduce cable clutter on my desk. Also i got the board for free as a replacement from someone on Carb so I'm not one to complain.
2 - I'm in the research phase but looking for any direction/ideas? From what I've seen the keychron K2 is a solid pick down to the Royal Kludge RK68?

Like I say I'm open to all ideas and guidance as I'm just dipping my toe into the world of custom keyboards and keyboard modding. Cheers!

If you want something nice, Monsgeek will be releasing a wireless version of their M1 keyboard. They haven't started selling outside of China - but I'm sure @ctrlshiftesc_za has plans to bring them in?

As much as we'd love to do that, ICASA is the party pooper. Wireless products need to first get a type approval by ICASA before they can be legally imported, sold, and owned. We'll inevitably get some wireless keyboards - maybe even this one, but until then we won't grey import products that we cannot legally sell.

Keychron are your best shout.

Affordable and in SA.

I have a Q2 and it’s good enough, I just hate the linear switches it came with.

If I had to buy another keyboard, I’d get a Nuphy Halo 65 though - I’ve got one as my daily driver and it feels amazing. It’s also not that expensive.

10/10 can recommend a good set of Keycaps to reinvigorate a keyboards feel over buying a completely new keyboard.

Funny enough I joined the discord that was linked and @XtaCy696 | CGSATech and another gent recommended the K6 pro and i did some research and such last night and its looking like the play. Just gonna wait until next paycheck later in the month and then pull the trigger. Hopefully there is stock by then but for now I'm just looking at switches and keycaps on the side for future reference!

Great chatting to you man :)

Very late update but I just picked up a Keychron K6 pro and my first impression is it's an excellent keyboard coming from the Gamdias one I'd been using. Opted to get the version with the red switches to give linear switches a go coming from browns. Thanks to all for the strong recommendations :)
