Hey guys.

I cancelled CoolIdeas for obvious reasons.
I tried to get a ISP called level 7.. magically there is a fault on my line which vumatel now has to "check and fix" which I don't think is right. Less than two days ago everything was fine.
Is it possible for a router be locked to a ISP? So cool idea's router only works with cool ideas?

I'm soo close to telling them to F off and trying someone else.
I'm not sure what to do now as they already took my money because obviously everyone's process for taking your money is quick and easy.

I had a contract with TITCSA, they claimed the router was locked to them only as well.

Can anyone recommend a decent router I can possibly try get on my way home?
I know some routers have limits to what speeds they can handle. What could possibly have a 1000Mbps capability? incase I wanna go bonkers again
I'm searching on their sites but they don't seem to say? unless Im looking in the wrong places

Check the model and firmware, could be stock retail firmware. Worth a look.

Anything with a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port should work, at near full Gb speeds. Although that being said, routers mostly vary in things like:

USB transfer speeds
WiFi speeds+coverage
Regular firmware updates
Etc etc

You'll need the PPPoE details from your new ISP if you get your own router, assuming they provision with PPPoE and not DHCP option XX or other

Good brands are Asus, TPlink and Ubiquity.

If you game, or need piss simple, yet effective QoS, check Ubiquiti's EdgeRoutyer X, it has SQM (Smart Que Mgnt) which works well.

The router is not locked, although the service on the Vumatel line generally is, it is configured and controlled through the Vumatel ONT. This has to do with how the service is configured i.e. the speed. This is also how Vumatel controls how to route the traffic through to the correct ISP.

Before you rule out the router you should connect to your CPE directly to the PC, if it works then its the router.

With Mweb the CPE does not allow any internet if you directly connect, hence needing a router to do DHCP and LAN side routing / switching.

The routers are not locked to Cool ideas. There is a 30 day cancelation notice thst needs to go through and then cool ideas needs to release the line back to an open platform for the next isp to claim it.

TThere is no way around this. So you cannot chop and change from one day to the next. Vumtel assigns the line rental contract to cool ideas and it remains with them for the cancelation period. Thereafter another isp can pick the line up. Beyond that any Wan port router can be used weather it is dynamic IP or PPPOE detailed.

I bought a new router, Some Asus AC1200 or something like that. It is capable of 1000mbps and it has most of the bells and whistles.
I also bought it with the idea that I don't have to give AF or deal with their shitty routers which have crap wifi.
Internet now works, wasn't because of the router. CoolIdeas somehow broke something but Vuma fixed it and now Level 7 is my ISP.
I will see how it goes.

Only reason I know some routers can only reach certain speeds was when I upgraded from 100mbps to 200mbps and I wasn't getting 200.
They had to send me another router that was capable.
