The cheapest option is a using a gpp simcard method - i actually ordered it form ebay for R200. Will throw this in.

Guaranteed remote factory unlock 69-79 british pounds. Waiting time of 1-2 days. They essentially deal with verizon to unlock it. here or this

I think a jailbreak will do it. I am told even easier once iOS 7 is released. Spoke to a few people that do jailbreaking on gumtree. Nice thing is if it works you pay around R350.

I ordered the gpp sim from ebay after looking it up (and i was curious) - these things take a while to cross an ocean.
