I had one, it work quite good, however I have more frequent outages than just loadshedding, and then these become very expensive per kWh (Any small generator will be expensive not just inverter generators)

a cheapie Shultz unit.

I tried to keep the loads as light as possible, even tough the rating says 2kVA those ratings are normally only achieved for small bursts and not continuous, I tried to keep mine below 1KW load always. (Which was at that time my PC + TV + Fridge and Chest Freezer)
Just watchout for inrush current, anything with a motor will draw much more power than the rated power rating for the first second of startup, this could cause the generator to trip, so start your loads with motors one at a time, in my case I would connect the fridge first, wait a few seconds and then add the chest freezer.
 
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience on these?

don't buy.. over time something can broke then parts will be difficult to get
