Hello Gents.

I'm trying to install ubuntu desktop on a Intel SR2612urr server, Motherboard is a S5520OUR.

when ubuntu installer everything is fine but as soon as it needs to go to the screen where you need to state if you would to try/install ubuntu I get a out of range notification on my screen.

so I tried using my tv as a screen but then I get an Invalid format message.

clearly this has got to do with resolution/refresh rate when it actually loads ubuntu installation.

do you guys have a fix or advice.

all input would be appreciated.
Kind regards.
Shane.

In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, we can use grub-customizer to fix the problem: 1. Start your machine, on 'signal out of range' screen press Enter. Wait a second (or try Ctrl+Alt+F1, Ctrl+ALt+F7), it will boot into Ubuntu.

should anyone else ever run into this problem using an old server's onboard GFX.

1. I edited the grub file on the install usb, GFXMode=auto changed to =640x480.

2.when the loading screen appears before the install menu pops up. I pressed shift and this brought up a more basic menu.
from there I could select install ubuntu 20.04(safe graphics).

I know that after changing the grub file on install usb I could still not launch the normal installer.
so if step one is necessary I do not know. but step two seems to have been key.
