Are you registered?

"WHY REGISTER WITH SAIT?
Section 240A of the Tax Administration Act, 2011 (as amended) requires that all tax practitioners register with a recognized controlling body before 1 July 2013. It is a criminal offense to not register with both a recognized controlling body and SARS."

Please state if you are registered or not @Gustav1991

The Tax Practitioner I am working under is registered with SAIT, and I am myself in the process of being registered. Any services rendered would be under the account of the Practitioner. Please let me know if you have any further queries!

What are the tax practitioner's company name and contact details?

Feel free to send me a PM if you need the particulars wrt the company / practitioner or if you have any tax related questions.

Kind regards,

This is pretty cool, I'm going to ask this here if you don't mind because I think it may be useful info to others in this group.

I'm working from home at the moment, as I imagine a lot of other peeps are and I have heard that I could be claiming tax back because I can claim for part of my rent as it is used for "office space" and possibly petrol and other things too.
Is this true and would I have to do it on my tax return?

Hope that isn't a stupid question :)

I think it's in the interest of everyone here to just post the company/practitioner's info here publicly, mate. There are serious legal repercussions if it's not all perfectly above board.

This is a good question - there are many variables to consider, if I list them all here it will end up being a wall of text !

Please send me a PM and I will give you my contact details to discuss, I would need to get a better picture of your working situation first before I can advise on whether or not you qualify for claiming expenses wrt a home office / travel expenses etc.

Cheers,
Gustav S

It actually depends on what you do, its a great question though. I am a Financial Advisor and I can claim for things like fuel (driving to clients) and food (entertaining clients) maybe stationary as well, not too sure, but that's about it as far as I know. Like i cant claim back for maintenance on my car even though its what i use for work like my suspension was messed up and I recently fitted coilovers and I cant claim for it even though it was like R5K. LOL. I'd also like to know what else I can claim for though

Well it would all depend on what kind of income you earn, for example if you only earn normal salary income there is very little you can claim in the production of income. If you earn commission for example or straight up earn independent contractor income the door is wide open for you to claim almost any expenses so long as you can justify that they were somehow necessary to be able to earn your income. Feel free to send me a PM if you would like me to go into specifics regarding this.
