Hey guys

I need advice please .

I have a home office . Currently using a canon G4411 andit has wifi /network problems. It;s scanner also gets stuck almost all the time with the ADF .
Is there some sort of printer anyone can recommend and where to buy . I believe someone mentioned the ADF must have multiple rollers or something . Can someone please give honest advice if possible.

MAny thanks

How much and how often do you print.

I have an HP color laserjet that’s many moons old and still going strong. ADF works well but I don’t scan very often.

I also bought a canon ink tank and if it’s not used often, the print head keeps getting blocked.

Both have wifi… the hp just works better though

Yeah, this is a "how long is a piece of string" kind of question.

If you print and scan a lot, rather go the rental route where the printer is a managed service. That way if the thing breaks, you place a phone call and it gets fixed under the SLA.

If it's an outright purchase, I'd probably go with a Brother or Kyocera, and almost certainly a laser instead of an ink printer.

We have a Samsung MFP at home which the wife used extensively during her studies, but the toner is insanely expensive compared to competitors and their support is non-existent. While it does print very well, the features aren't great, scanning quality is sub-par and reliability has been questionable. I've had to perform firmware reflash work to recover the thing when it joined COSATU and went on strike.

If I'm honest though, I severely dislike Samsung products in general. They're not awful, they're just so terribly mediocre that it frankly pisses me off. So perhaps my opinion clouds my judgement with this printer.

Back when I worked at the mines, we had HPs in the foremens offices, Toshiba and Xerox in the HR and Finance departments. Those were the reliable brands. Make of it what you will.

I don't print that much apart from my boys project . When i receive documents to be signed , sometimes 50 pages the things get stuck and it just delays my process . 3 @ 1 cost a fortune .

Urgh, 2023 and we're still printing, signing & scanning. It frustrates me to see this because printers are the bane of humanity.
Can you not get away with signing a PDF through acrobat?

i work with 40 page documents that need original documents. so scanning is inportant . And my son need to print for school assignments.

Thanks Bud . I always take advice from wherever i can and thanks for your detailed response. I have a warped imagination , so when mines were mentioned i immediately went back to the mining scene from my favourite commedy "zoolander" . "I'm not a mermaid , I am a merman (*cough* *cough*) :)

Do you turn off the ink valve when not using it?

With ink tank printers you have to prep it for standing.

Hmm. I didn’t really know that this was a thing. I’ll look into it

Don't touch any new HP Officejet range, I have a storeroom full of broken ones ranging from 1-2years old that were barely used.

HP have seemed to have adopted the mentality of make it cheap and disposal for their Officejet range.

They have also somehow pushed firmware to the older models to stop them working with generics, that use to work fine. Very frustrating when you have bought stock for future use.

I second the 'stay away from HP' sentiment. They have some truly horrific terms and can remote block certain printers - which is complete BS. I've heard good things about Brother and Kyocera and if you can afford it, a laser is the least headache.

I have a Samsung laser MFC that I've had for over a decade and still serves me well and I was able to find toner for it easily, even though Samsung sold off their printer division to HP around 2016. I find that I'm printing less and less, but when I do print, it must be effortless. My folks often battle with printing as the ink dries out, needs replacing,...

Please tell me about this digital signature option my friend!!

Ok . change of plan . I believe E-signatures are awesome. I see docusign wants to charge unneccessary money for signing documents.
Can anyone guide me on something else to please use that is legally correct in South Africa?
