Hello everyone

Long story short... Afrihost ended up cancelling my new fibre line install (Octotel's issue, not Afrihost) and they supposed to collect the Router they gave me.
Now it has been freaking 3 months with 5+ times followup, they never collected and rather charged me with fat R999 + R250 (router+delivery) and ran away....

Now I was looking to repurpose this thing and realised that it has Afrihost custom firmware.
Did quick search on forum, found this: Huawei AX3 | Internet & Networks
But all attempt I did ended up as "Invalid package" error while updating....

So the question is, does anyone know which stock firmware I need to use to restore it to factory?

The router in question is:
Huawei AX3 7100 dual core
Version: VER.A
Harmoney OS 3
firmware version: 2.0.0.115 (C1539)

TIA all.

Hi Bud,

have you firstly try to reset it completely? and then go through the whole PPPOE Setup and then do a update via the router itself?

@Smurf
Good day bud, yes I reseted the router multiple times. On PPPOE side, I could not set up the pppoe since it is cancelled. So I just selected the DHCP and go ahead with rest of the setup and the update, which still ends up as invalid package... 😕

this was the one we used for a friend of mine that had afrihost version, but looks like the link has been removed :(

quick search brought this up.

update.hicloud.com/download/data/pub_13/HWHOTA_hota_900_9/8b/v3/GMFGALe9SSGryfagez1znw/WS7100-20_10.0.5.33_main.bin

firmware I found, maybe try flash it

As far as i know i just did the hard reset and plugged it into new fiber installation form internode and entered the detail No problems.
Got the router in 2022 But still has the Afrihost login screen.

@Smurf
Thanks a lot man, let me give it a try.

@ultimate
I have not tried on other ISP pppoe details but the one thing I do not like about their custom firmware is the fact that they have control over the router. I can remove their remote access, but flick of a reset or something it will bring that remote access again.

Put sticky not on it reminding everyone to turn off remote access when resetting.:ROFLMAO:

Quick update on this,,, still did not work.
I feel like Afrihost changed some package for their custom firmware,,,,, Tried all of the bin files available on their website, all failed...

I think you just need to disable TR-069 and that should stop remote access.
Yes, that is correct. once I disable TR-069 their connection is pretty much terminated, but the custom firmware itself still keeps this setting and afaik it will not work with other ISP since it is locked with afrihost (not confirmed yet, I will try this soon actually).

Maybe ask AfriNatic and AfriGirl on myBB.

I seriously doubt they would lock it to them only.

Have they started customising the firmware on these, I have one and there's nothing Afrihost branded on it?

From what I understand, there is no visible branding stuff, but it adds
1. Afrihost pppoe values (guest@afrihost.co.za)
2. TR-069 with afrihost access.
But the problem is why it disables official firmware updates. What kind of version are they using that completely reject it. It's suspicious as my as I love Afrihost
