Hi guys.

So I recently made the move over from Intel to Amd and got myself a decent Ryzen setup. Overall the system is performing very well except for a few small niggles I'm experiencing.

In most games, if not all of them, my gpu only goes under load to about 80% with it sometimes spiking to 99%. Games such as FarCry5, F1 2017 and Pubg.
CSGO is the worst! I get 300-500Fps most of the times, then all of sudden it get's this sudden drop in fps and stays below 200fps dipping as low as 120fps!!

I have literally tried everything. Below mentioned is all the options I have tried.
* Reinstall windows for the 2nd time.
*Set power plan in windows to Performance mode.
*Use Ryzen master and activate creator mode.
*Overclock cpu
*Overclock ram and set timings
*Make sure HPET is disabled in windows

PS, this is not temp related as I have monitored my temps with gpu maxing at about 48C and cpu maxing in the region of 60C.
PSS, I play at 1440P 165hz so most games should not be cpu bound but rather GPU bound cause of the resolution. (As far as I understand, however I stand to be corrected.)

Computer Specs:
Ryzen 5 2600 @4.2 ghz 1.35V (Chipset Driver 18.10.0830 )
Asus X470 Prime-Pro
GSkill TridentZ RGB 2X8gb 3200Mhz Cl16 (Running @ 3466mhz Cl15,17,17,17,36)
Msi GTX1080TI Seahawk X (Driver 416.34)
Samsung 840 Evo 256GB SDD (Planning on moving to M.2 soon)

Any advice would be appreciated. I have used various benchmarks to test my components including Cinebench, SISoftware Sandra and Superposition and all seems fine using these benchmarks. Gpu goes under load 100% in Superposition and scored close to 16400 1080 high settings, ram scores close to 40GB/S in SiSoftware and cpu scored 1420 in Cinebench at 4.2ghz.

Have you checked your Nvidia settings , maybe pick a game and set it to performance over balanced mode.
I have now changed my preferred setting in nvidia control panel to "maximum performance preferred".

Will revert with feedback soon....

Bit of an older unit.

Cooler master gx750.

Was thinking that it could possibly be the psu.... But it's fan doesn't spin up crazy and it doesn't get hot.

Recommended PSu is a 750watt for your GPU, so you should be okay. I was experiencing similar issues which was related to my PSU. I bought a 750 watt gold certified from thermaltake and the problem is gone.

So I have tried the game with the settings changed in nvidia control panel and it seems to have made a small difference.

However, I noticed that if I overclock my gpu and play cs while Riva is running the gpu clocks down to like 1600mhz. I then reverted back to stock settings on the gpu and disabled riva and the card was running at a constant 1962mhz core and the fps drops decreased, however I still notice it now and then.....

this might not be the reason but if you want to try everything its worth a shot, have you updated your BIOS at all ?

Ya coolermaster honestly makes mostly crap PSU's , but I would think a bad PSU would cause restarts blue screens etc..
Agreed. I thought that maybe if it was the psu then I would suffer from the dreaded random shutdowns and restarts.

Perhaps the fact that my gpu downclocks itself when overclocked shows that my psu can't keep up?

I shall ask a friend if I can lend his RM1000X and see if it has any impact on my gaming experience.

Updated bios to latest version on Monday Night.

try revert your Bios to defaults/safe settings and see what happens , if its fine bump your Ram up via XMP and test again, then make more adjustments and repeat.

What software are you using to overclock, if your not overclocking is the FPS stable then ?

It's always important to check online what people are saying about new bios's, especially new bios's for Ryzen. Like the new bios for my board is a piece of shit, had to revert to the old one. Did a little bit of research on oc.net and everyone confirmed what I experienced. That psu is dog vomit, so get rid of it as well.

Reverted to previous bios. Nothing changed.....

So possibly the psu.

They do have some great models out there but I don’t know the brand well enough to tell you which ones.

Corsair and SuperFlower are my go to PSU brands.

Try a new PSU and go from there.

Update:

I used a different psu today to test and the problem persist.

Now I'm beginning to think that it could possibly be the gpu or perhaps the SSD....

I have now used the cs benchmark tool and when smoke is thrown my frames dips as low as 120fps!! Most of the time it runs at 500+ in the benchmark and avg is 380fps. At 1080P I have immense stuttering.

Edit: I even used different ram modules and it makes no difference.

Heat! Cool down your chip. its thermal throttling on the AMD CPU.
This ^

SInce we've ruled out the PSU as a problem, it's heat. That's why it happens after a while and doesn't just shut down.
You need to RMA the card or open it up and replace the thermal paste and thermal pads (the thermal pads probably don't need replacing though).

It can't be temps.

I have used various applications to read my temps and even in Cinebench my cpu maxes at 62C. Gpu maxes out at 48C in superposition.

This morning I installed windows on a different SSD and the issue persist.

The only hardware that has not been eliminated is cpu, mobo and gpu.

I shall be lending my friends gpu a bit later today to test and see if my gpu isn't faulty.

If it's not gpu related, then it's either cpu or mobo.....

It can be if its the VRAM modules that aren't being cooled properly.
This is my thinking. Most decent VRM's are good to ~120degrees according to Buildzoid, Debauer & Gamers Nexus, but they suffer from seriously bad cooling. If your VRM's have to 'throttle' then power delivery to your CPU is hampered.

Also,. roll back GPU driver to 399 or pre 399.

Play your game in a window, with Task Manager above it, or put Task man on a 2nd screen. When you get these dips, check your CPU freq.

You guys can check my video I uploaded on Youtube.

This is just an example. The gpu doesn't go under load in F1 nor FarCry5 but in video benchmarks it goes to 99% load. Pubg also suffers from gpu load and only goes to about 80% load max.

Test SSD with SSDLife, takes 5min. At 1080p you will have stuttering, that card is a beast, its ment for 2560x1440p gaming. At 1920x1080 its pushing more FPS then the RAM and CPU can cope with.

As mentioned, I exchanged the ssd this morning for another Samsung one I have.

I game at 1440p. It was only yesterday that I tested at 1080p. The video I posted was taken while testing on my 1440p screen.
