Hey guys so I bought a pc a while back from a fellow carbie and it came with this Asus mobo. He mentioned that he always struggled to get the board to just run normally but "these Asus boards are so finicky" Lol so yeah it worked for a while and gradually started dying.

It started with only booting with nvidia cards and certain amd cards --- then no more booting with AMD cards -- then no more booting with any gpu and only booted with onboard display until it finally stopped booting in general.

The board still powers on, havent checked it in forever so I forgot what the last error code said.

I sent it to @RUALDO to check it out and he reckons the board needs a bios re-flash. No physical damage was found on the board.
I just wanna run my ddr3 ram at 2400mhz and overclock my 4790k lol

Any help offered will be highly appreciated!
Thanks guys

I reckon you re-flash the bios.

Thanks for the link sir!
The last time I spoke with Rualdo he was saying that he wanted someone who has a working board like this to make a copy of the bios from the working one and then flash that over

Will try flashing stock and will update about which error code

Hey guys so I got word back from Rualdo and he mentioned that he flashed a variety of bioses thus far with no avail.

Is there anyone that would be keen to check out the mobo for me before I surrender? 🥲

May I ask the noob question? How is he flashing the bios without the board being able to boot?

It has a physical bios re-flash button on the motherboard

Replacement BIOS chip? When he was reprogramming was he checking the programmed to see if the chip was holding the correct data and such, it's old enough that the chip might have given up. Wait I had it as he was reprogramming the bios not just using the on board flash. Chip looks socket-able, has he tried to just take it out and then wipe the legs and reseat it. The legs have a tendency to become oxidised over time.

If you don't get the thing running I might be interested in the mem and CPU...lol

Hi Guy.

Wow, someone with an old asus board.

I got a ROG Maximus III P67. Purchased in 2011. Still running. Well sort of.

Luckily, mine has a Q-Code display(Will never buy a mobo without these LED's). And somedays it takes forever to boot(5min). The code it gets stuck on is PCI-E something or the other, can't remember off the top of my head.

A while back (like in 2019) it just would not boot at all. I tried everything, except switching the GPU to another slot, and it booted. Later on, same thing, just would not boot, Q-Code got stuck on RAM issues. So switched my 2x 4gb sticks over to the other channel, and what do you know, it worked.

I am quite forgiving regarding my motherboard, after all, its now 11years old, and has been put through some hard times. I've been running my Intel Sandybridge I5 2500K on 4.2-4.5gHz since 2017. And I have the greatest respect for my Asus Maximus III.

Its going to be a sad day when I retire the old girl.

This sounds like a bad idea. It should be flashed with it's specific BIOS. Have him reflash the BIOS using a tool like theb one just above point 4 in this thread - [Tutorial] Flash Asus Z170 Pro Gaming using Ubuntu · Issue #98 · corna/me_cleaner

Like any other function, the BIOS flashback feature can fail, hence why using such a tool is good. Alternativly, order the same chip preprogrammed, and have him solder it on.

I can likely assist when I'm back in CT towards the end of May as I have the flashing tool's & maybe even a donar BIOS chip from my supply of spare boards.

That sounds good. I’ll most likely just wait until then [emoji1419]
