Hi fellow Carbonites

I recently bought a mobo of a guy with a i3 cpu and 2gb ram included, bargain i said

i hooked everything up and its working perfectly, boots up, installed windows without any probs, the problem comes when i upgrade the ram with 2 x 4gb chips i know is working, the moment i do this with only the 2 x 4gb in it doesn't boot to POST
but when i only insert one chip it boots past POST and until it shows starting windows ( i Run Win 7) then it crashes and restarts. i checked the chips to be compatible and it is, i even updated the bios itself but the problem stays.
any help From other Techies Please???

specs
MSI H55m-e33 Motherboard
2 x 1GB DDR3 RAM 1333mhz / 2 x 4gb DDR3 1333mhz
CORE i3 -530/2.93GHz

If you swap the ram dims from one side to the other?

it still does the same, i tried inserting all chips but doesn't go past POST. i swapped the chips in all slots but with no success

I'm just they are properly connected. But just to be safe make sure they click. Annnnd swop multi plugs if it's on a multi plug

so if you take one dimm and put it in the slot closest to the cpu does it work fine? and then when you move it to the other slot does it crash?

have you run memtest on these dimms?

if i insert the 1gb chips in any slots . the pc boots up. i tried them in the other slots and it works but as soon as i insert a single 4gb chip it boots past post until starting windows and crashes but with both 4gb chips doesnt boot at all not even to post

Is it new 4gb ram sticks? Sounds like they are faulty.

You bought tech released 7 years ago. If that board is faulty or you want to test with another you will probably not find another one to replace it or struggle to test with another. My condolences, from one techie to another. [emoji14]

Also check the manufacture date on the ram. I recall having an issue with this where the 4gig sticks were 512mb and not 256mb - this was my issue.
