So I discovered my Samsung has a listening test for different frequencies independently for left and right and then boosts those that I can't hear.

Is there a way to do this in windows?

Not that I'm aware of.
You would need an EQ application that would allow for manipulation of channels independently.

So anyone see the drama with KZ and Crin pulling his affiliation with KZ?

Quite a few of their IEM's are shipping with drivers/BA's that don't actually do anything
i only found out about this after reading your post and i tried looking for more info on the issue so thanks for the heads up ..... if KZ really are lying then i wont have any sympathy for them and i dont have any intention of defending them BUT they claim that these drivers are extremely low output and while not necessarily auidible on their own do things to adjust timbre ie they pay at 90db while the Dynamic drivers play at 118db

but they should not be really adding so many drivers and complexity to make the price point higher if the drivers do so little ..... though it needs to be seen if the timbre can be adjusted without including those additional drivers to do so little

does make me wonder actually how many of the drivers in my AS16 are actually working (supposed to be 8 balanced armature per side with absolutely no dynamic drivers) but the AS16 sound pretty decent ie they are more transparent sounding and more dynamic than even my full size headphones and in terms of the "size" of the sound they sound as if they are a much bigger headphone than an IEM so IMHO they justify their price tag in terms of overall sound

but things like this really does erode consumer confidence and i wont be surprised if KZ lose lots of fans over this - im now hesitant to want to try new models from them and i would probably feel safer buying another brand but it is again not clear how many companies would be doing things like this ie whether its only KZ and their affiliated brands or whether anyone else is doing this too

Ya exactly, I just I would just use the analysis from the Samsung test, but they also play the tones locked at a very low volume, not sure if that affects the results?

Hey guys. I am in need of some wisdom with a question that I am sure has been asked plenty of times... I currently have Cooler Master's MH650's. The issue I have with these is that my ears are touching on the inside and after about an hour or two of gaming they get sore and the headaches start.

What would you guys recommend for around R2500'ish? I appreciate good sound quality but I am in no sense of the word a purist and I know my budget might limit this. My needs are as follows:

-Something comfy with decent padding that won't soften up over time.
-Built in mic monitoring/voice tone feature so that I can hear my own voice otherwise I shout like a crazy person
-A good balanced sound stage that will add to the feeling of immersion.
-Mic quality doesn't matter too much but I don't want to sound like Squidward to my mates
-No headsets that are prone to cracking or breaking on the joints over time, need something that will last.

I have been watching videos and reading up for over a week but can't get any clear answers. Please assist fellow carbies...

If you still enjoy the CM then maybe buy a set of memory foam earpads, no need to buy a whole new headset unless you specifically want something different

SHP9500 with a mic such as below should do nicely.

Or if you want a little more base, look at the Fidelio X2HR with a similar attachment.

I wouldn't say I am enjoying them. But they work. Sound is decent to be honest as they use a decent set of drivers. I would however love a set with mic montoring and slightly better audio. Looking at the Epos HS6Pro's as a possibility. But appreciate the recommendation.

I have seen those and heard some good things. This is actually another question I forgot to ask. I have never played with open back headphones. I do enjoy in ear buds and the feeling if closed audio but I see everywehere that people highly recommend open backs? I have never used an open back set so I have no knowledge on them. So I was also looking at the Epos HS6Pro's but I am torn between open and closed backs. Any advise? Thanks!

I enjoy my open back. When sound is medium, I don't really hear anything anymore. And there is no "pressure" feel on my ears. Also don't sound like a mad person shouting anymore, as you can hear yourself a little.

Also, something sufficiently loud does get through. Like wife, child calling, or general safety - being more aware of your house.

This is not really ideal as I am so used to powering my headphones with a DAC/AMP which sounds so much better than my onboard sound...
So the only way to go is a standalone USB microphone and to run the headphones through a DAC/AMP with a mic input like a syba sonic

Open backs are pretty terrible for bass unless you EQ them pretty hard, but if you're ok with "normal" bass then open-backs are an easy recommendation for anyone. Everything Bearman says is spot-on too.

1 -Something comfy with decent padding that won't soften up over time.
2 -Built in mic monitoring/voice tone feature so that I can hear my own voice otherwise I shout like a crazy person
3-A good balanced sound stage that will add to the feeling of immersion.
4 -Mic quality doesn't matter too much but I don't want to sound like Squidward to my mates
5 -No headsets that are prone to cracking or breaking on the joints over time, need something that will last.

Great deal on the HD58x here:

1 - "Comfy" is unfortunately pretty user-specific, but Sennheisers are usually a pretty generic fit that most people find comfy. Replacement pads are reasonably easy to find too.

2 - I've experimented with headsets a lot and found the best solution to just be a good pair of headphones with a separate mic. I moved through a number of headsets, then a R30 lav mic and now I'm using my Logitech C920 and none of my friends can tell the difference. nVidia Broadcast does help though.

3 - For sound stage, open-backs are hard to beat. They're not quite as open-sounding as everyone said they'd be, which I found to be a good thing.

4 - See point 2

5 - Again, Sennheisers are a safe bet.

Bass is not when you get a noisy boomy mush of sound - then it lands up just being noise - bass is actually when you can hear the detail in things like bass guitar or kick drums or Tom drums ...... most headphones can give you in game bassy explosions but most of those dont really do much for the accuracy of your actual audio - the idea is not to knock your head into the next century or rattle your fillings out of your teeth - its to enhance the accuracy of the sound - sorry for this generalization BUT 99% of people out there misunderstand the concept of bass entirely (not specifying anyone or even the person i quoted above but just saying that this is generally the case)

BUT i will agree with you inasmuch as Senneheisser is a pretty safe bet for a majority of peoples tastes besides for those bassheads after a pounding bass sound that will make their teeth grind on every drumbeat

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up going for the Closed back Epos H6Pro's with a GSX 300 amp so that I can get sidetone. Hope it will do the job.
Will definitely do the job, should be a massive jump from the cm headset. Post your thoughts once you've tested

Apologies. I only saw your reply now.

I don't think you can go wrong with your choice here. Sennies really are something else.

I see you also fell for the budget trap...no way you got both those for your initial budget - LOL.

Thanks for the reassurance! Yeah screw it. Was hoping someone didn't do the math... 😂 I want something good that will last. And after reading up about the gsx 300 it looked like it was worth the extra. Eq adjustments, mic sounds solid with it and it also enables me to get the sidetone feature I need as well. So why not. Really just wanted to get out of the whole "RGB Gaming headset" realm and into something good.

Will do bud. :) Side by side comparison is first on the list with some broad spectrum samples between new and old. Still waiting for delivery though. "Currently in transit from Cape Town to Pretoria Depot". With some luck they might come tomorrow!

hope you don't have to wait too long ........ and good luck with whatever it is that you have purchased - hope it lives up to your expectations (y)

Anyone here have experience ordering from Linsoul or HifiGo? On the search for some IEMs and want to make the experience as painless as possible.

Been looking for something more balanced to go alongside my IMR R2 Aten, which is an absolute bass freak. At the moment I'm torn between the Tripowin Olina and the Shuoer S12.

I've ordered from Hifigo twice now

As long as you pay for couriered delivery, it's pretty painless. The courier will contact you at some point to send the bill for import taxes.

Overall quite easy.

I want to get the Focal Stellia one of these lifetimes.

GF thinks I’m nuts but I’m ok with that.

I did manage to buy a Ifi Zen DAC V2 Monday and it’s wonderful. Second hand with power adapter for £140.

Nice dude.
I've got the V1 and it's a stunning lil unit.
Wouldn't mind the zen can.

JuSt SaVe FoR tHe HE1.

Jk. Best of luck with that purchase, at least the wife isn't threatening to kill you if you purchase it.

You know it’s an expensive headset when there’s a purchasing process.

I showed it to my GF and she said “that doesn’t make your Stellia purchase ok”

So... I have the Apple Dongle. Cheap DAC/AMP that's not labeled as such. Brother brought the US version for me on his visit to ZA. It's... good? Very good?

Not like I have demanding headsets or anything, so for me, I guess this is fine? I thought quality was supposed to cost a lost of money?

Is this seriously the answer to anyone who has sucky motherboard sound (or wants to remove PC noise from Mic over Teams/Discord/Etc meetings) , and just wants something better that's good enough, with no frills?

I also know the EU (SA) version has half of the output power of the US version, but I have never gone over 40% in Win volume, so it would probably have been fine too.
