Tried to ignore Maxim's good deal on the X2 for as long as possible but well the results speak for themselves. Things getting a bit out of hand now. Once the R2R 11 arrives I am done for a while that's for sure, and definitely not keeping all of these! During my research I always sort of figured my tastes would lean towards the 6XX and the X2. Spoiler alert: I wasn't wrong ;) .

Once the R2R11 arrives, you have the perfect rabbit hole starter kit. I did the same. Bought lots of stuff then sold off what I knew would just gather dust.

Nothing wrong with a little dust here and there! Like patina on fine furniture from years gone by. I have separation anxiety so I sell less than I buy ... Makes for a wonderfully varied collection.

What's on the far end?

So, quick thoughts on the Fidelio X2. Overall, I really like it. It's beautifully built, super comfortable and sounds great. It has a sort of fun sound signature, bit more bass and defined highs, mids slightly recessed over the 6XX. The upper reaches can seem to have a slightly artificial "sizzle" to it with some sibilant notes occasionally coming through but even so doesn't seem to create fatigue. I definitely prefer it's sound over the SHP9500 which is to be expected and it's in a completely different league in build quality.

BUT...for me, it's still no match for the 6XX when it comes to how I enjoy my music. There is some music that maybe suits it better but when I come back to that 6XX I get that amazing musicality and perfect balance that I like so much. The sharp edges are smoothed off just right amount. I am glad I have the X2 to compare as it really makes me appreciated the 6XX even more. Everything just sounds more natural with that perfect touch of warmth. Don't get me wrong I really like the X2 but the 6XX just seems like it was built for me. If you appreciate a wider soundstage then the X2 definitely has more to offer than 6XX in that regard where as for me the 6XX has that perfect amount of openness vs intimacy.

That being said, I didn't buy the X2 in an attempt to replace the 6XX, I bought it to try for gaming, with the added bonus of being able to have some fun with a bass heavy headphone when I felt like it. In that regard it seems to excel. For gaming the wider soundstage and impressive imaging seems to work nicely when listening for other players. I also think that with the drivers being set at an angle it means it's much easier to tell if something is directly in front of me vs behind me. I've found with my other headphones if a shot goes off directly behind or in front of me I sometimes have to turn slightly to make sure I haven't got confused. With the X2 the difference is much more obvious and I don't have to second guess myself, which is appreciated. It also just sounds good in games. Perhaps in some situations the additional bass may mask footsteps so will be something I keep in mind. Perhaps some EQ tweaking for a competitive game will be worthwhile. For single player immersion though these will be awesome I'm sure. Will definitely hang onto these things and add a boom pro.

Note these tests were all done on my uDSD which I can definitely hear is struggling to drive the 300ohm 6XX on certain songs (I actually see the odd clipping on some very sub-bass heavy songs) . So once I have the R2R 11 the 6XX may scale better and pull even further ahead of the X2. Conversely, this makes the X2 a much better portable option than the 6XX.

Anyway those are my thoughts and obviously with this being audio, YMMV . I'm also a relative newbie to the audiophile side of things so anything I say can be taken with a pinch of salt. Though I've always been quite the muso and once put a fair chunk of my life into my guitar so would hope I have a decent ear for this kind of stuff ;)

Pretty darn accurate thoughts... well very much aligned to my thoughts when I had the X2. Although I settled for the DT990 Pro over the X2.. but shortly after that I sold all my entry cans (except the HD650) to help fund my LCD2.

Is there anyone here who can help or advise me with something.. my RCF Ayra 5 Active Monitors stopped working a few weeks ago. They still power up, they still have the ground loop hum that I never got round to sorting out. I'm prob looking for someone who can fix electronics to check them for me and advise:

Things I have tried
1. Confirmed they're plugged in and the power switches are on :p
2. RCA out from different amps: Deckard, R2R11, Lake People G100, StudioB - no sound, but all these amps send sound to my sub via the RCA outs
3. As per #2 but without my sub in the chain
4. Different RCA cables

Things I haven't tried
1. Going out from my Deckard (or any other source) to the speaker's 6.4mm jack input (going to see if I can get to this test this evening)
2. Prayer or sacrifice to the audio gods

Did you open it up and see if anything blew?

Did you check the input sensitivity has not been turned down to infinity?

K. So I might have the get myself a 6XX as well after the K7XX.

Let's rewind back a few months. I played Destiny 2 with Sennie Game Zero powered by GSX1200 and hated it. It was bloody awful, so many sounds were missing and the sound that was there was muffled and all around me with zero directionality or even false directionality. The only reason why I knew where anything was is because I saw it, a damage indicator pointed it out me, or I recognised it from map knowledge. It convinced me I had been right all all along and the Strix 7.1 "True surround" headset I've got was always gonna be best.

Now yesterday I finally returned to Destiny 2 this time with the X2 (and still the GSX1200) and OH MY FUCKING WORD. My experience is the exact opposite of how it was with the Game Zero. The X2 is fantastic, I can hear more, I can understand the audio info better and I'm having way more fun. Now it's the Strix which seems to be hiding sounds from me and obscuring things like the Game Zero once did. Now I can say once and for all that I am definitely a convert.

The real star of the show is the GSX1200 though. I love this thing so much, I love having those DSP adjustments to my audio experience. I don't know how I will ever move any deeper down the audio rabbithole because as soon as I would the GSX would run out of juice and my choices would go out the window as I'm subjected purely to a stereo experience.

That said for the first time I've encountered a title now where the surround settings on the GSX1200 don't work at all. Borderlands Enhanced. I'm finding for this game I have to switch back to stereo and up sound about 20 points so it's now more around 50%. So maybe there's hope for me becoming a total stereo convert yet.

You may well find that if you stay primarily on the gaming side of audio, and don't get into the music side of audio, that the GSX is, and will remain, just fine. If you ever get into the music side of the audio rabbit hole, it will quickly become evident that the GSX simply can't run too far into the tall grass with the wild dogs.

I know that already. I'm not sure how I will cope on that day. I will probably try to remedy it with an R2R11 though. But I'm not sure I will be happy surrendering all that DSP control.

Also limiting myself to a weakish DAC/Amp seems like a good way of capping my audio spending. I'll never have to worry about the Stax, HD800s, DT1990s, and LCDs of the world if I know I won't have the juice to drive them. I can probably the draw the line somewhere at all the entry-level massdrops.

May i suggest u look at mayflower arc.

U seem to want somthing that is good at both and thats why i am looking at the arc.

I'm the one that pointed you in the direction of the Arc :p

So... I just got this as a gift a few minutes ago! (I realise it does not really belong in this section.)

Yeah definitely dude! Will include some audio samples as well. (although there are a lot available on the net already, the more the merrier?) We will discuss when I am ready. Thanks again for your willingness to lend me your boompro.

I will recite one of my all time favourite poems "I DO NOT NEED AN HD800! I DO NOT NEED AN ELEAR! I DO NOT NEED A PHONITOR!"

Best value for money headphone that exists, hands down.

You won't be disappointed dude. That deep blue is also an amazing colour.

As with everything, let us know your thoughts please.

Will do!

Should hopefully keep me satisfied for a bit while I figure out what DAC I want to get...

I'd like this post but I'm too jealous to do so.
