HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Been eyeing this thread for a while but ended up buying Sennie GSP600s yesterday due to getting a great price and wanting simplicity of built in mic. Have to say though, they do sound amazing. Hard to believe they're a gaming headset unless you catch your reflection :ROFLMAO:.

Well... If you're going to buy a gaming headset at least you did get one from a company who knows how to make earphones :)

Also, half the criticism isn't that all gaming headphones are bad, just that usually you can get better for the same price... So if you got those at a good price and you enjoy them then that's all that matters.

If ANYONE has 600ohm headies that need a new home, pls check out my thread.... I would really appreciate this!!!! I got my DAC/AMP yesterday, now need headies... I have the HD598, but want stronger ones....

K so ill buy those if I find out open back just leaks too damn much.

They do leak but its really not all that bad, for example I would be gaming or listening to tunes while the kids would be behind me playing on my tablet or watching a movie, they cant really hear what I hear, unless they are absolutely silent.
The leak is both ways though, I can clearly hear them if they ask me something. I can have a full conversation with the headphones still on and music playing.

Thats obviously not my most common situation when I have headphones on but yeah you get the idea. Try and borrow a set to test first

I know they leak, I've checked a couple of youtube vids plus there have already been some accounts in this thread and I understand the concept and it doesn't seem like it would be too bad, especially since I'm generally fairly far away from everyone. But at the same time there's no door for me to close and my system is far from quiet plus in summer I'm running additional loud fans in the room so there's still a chance it could turn out to be problem/annoyance.

I've got the K7XX coming in (a local lightly used one), it's paid for and I'm glad to be getting it. But I'm just planning for the future now that I know my GSX has so much more to give than I've been experiencing.

It'll still be a while, following a bit of a long-winded method that'll still take 2 weeks or so to get them to me, but yep def excited.
If they're just a little bit better than my cellphone's in-ears (and they definitely should be by everything I've read and heard, providing they have sufficient power, and if nothing else they'll be way more comfortable) then they'll be amazing and are extremely likely to shelve my "True Surround" headset.

sorry i have the akg 240 is semi open, how open is the DT990? the price is really good for the 990 and i can probably get it a lot sooner that it would take me to save for a HD600.
think the only problem i have with the DT990 is that it doesnt have a removable cable. guess i could try modding the cable.

Congrats 🆒 I would venture to say you chose very well for your sound preferences (based on your posts)

I removed mine @ mars audio in cpt. Best decision i ever made.

Deaththekid is busy with his dt770 but ran into a slight problem. Beyers support is cool so its being sorted.

Needed the cable mod for vmoda boom pro

I think so yeah. I'm starting to realize that for all my ranting about it needing to be analytical I don't actually want that, I definitely want colour and fun. However I do know I don't want anything to be completely underrepresented, no V-shapes, I'm not surrendering my mids. And I want it wide, almost a little surround already due to width.
But most important of all it needs to be comfortable with fairly light clamp.

At least that's what I think I want.
Could still turn out I actually want something more narrow that's far more blended (maybe a cross-feed capable amp down the line) and direct and that's so warm it's wallowy and shakes my head to bits on explosions and bassy tracks.

With open I'm assuming you are referring to soundstage? If that is the case, the DT990 fits the bill. Big soundstage, full sound.

We made it out of smack talk! Go team...
:') We made it padawans! Now to keep this thread going long term...

QUESTION TIME:

On my drive to work, albeit a very short one, I was wondering what would be your top pick headphone for gaming? If money was no issue, what would you select off the shelf for gaming? For me it should have somewhat forward lows and should be crystal clear with great imaging. I've come to enjoy headphones with greater imaging more for comp gaming than a wider soundstage. If the layering is done right, its perfect.

My pick would definitely be something planar. LCD-2? My M1060 is AMAZING for gaming, and the LCD-2 should do everything better.

@HNO3 demo'd the M1060 yesterday... He put that thing KAK loud. Sounded like my home theatre was playing. No distortion and the planars handled it without skipping a beat.

JY GAAN DOOF WORD!

I'll test my LCD2 for gaming and report back. Been so busy, have not had a chance to game with them. One concern though, they are heavy. So I'm not sure how conducive to gaming they will be.

I am very interested in the 800/800S. That will be my next purchase. I'm also interested to hear that incredible detail and humongous soundstage for gaming.

I was considering the HD800S, I guess with eq it should be possible to get the lows at a 'fun' level. It should be a little over represented. Ships flying around and explosions going off should have some oooomph behind the sound. Playing Apex with the Monoliths is a lekker experience, when things get busy and tense feels like you are in a super hero movie.

can anyone suggest best place to pick up the dt990, and what colours they come in?

Grey or black i believe dor colours on dt990
