HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

You should get the H6PRO but only because I have been very curious about their sound and I want someone to compare them to something neutralish like the Game Zero and tell me whether they're also neutralish, or bass-boosted for teh gam0rz. That is the only reason.

Also apparently the GSX300 isn't great. But, plus side, with it you won't have the ground loop issue I mentioned above.

Emotional or economic reason?
Hehe I have my trusty Phoebus so chances are this external amp will sit in the cupboard.

and my Sennies are 3.5 years old so I just want to keep it under 4k (and pads + shipping is 1000+-

I just searched my emails and found my original receipt for my PC363D - I paid R3099 from AudioWarehouse
9 Years and 5 months of daily use, they are showing signs of wear:
  • Headband Pad is nearly falling off
  • Microphone has loud audible click when moving up or down
  • Volume rocker/knob is finicky at best, can't go full volume or only Right side4 audio works

If I can get new pads and perhaps clean out the volume knob, these might go for a few more years!

Still rocking Game One's, still love them. Apple Dongle + Game One, good fit. I have a second pair for my wife, and my PC 350 is lying in a box - they look at me so sadly, when I keep refusing to buy them new earpads. I replaced their earpads twice before (worth it).

@valiente PLEASE solder your volume rocker, bypass it (use windows volume, no biggie), and never struggle with that again!

PC363D's were the absolute tits.

I want FiiO BTR5 or BTR7 pls.

I have a BTR3K currently, and using it as a DAC when I'm gaming, and using it with my media box to watch movies/series these are such versatile little devices to have.

Very tempted to buy a Sennheiser HD598/599 soon or maybe some HD600's when I get a rebate. 🤓

Anyone else have any of the FiiO receivers?

Great alternative to the Fiio units is the Qudelix 5k. Similar feature set, but the software is much more customizable. Only problem is finding stock. Amazon is your best bet

Any guide on how to solder it? Any advice lol

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice,
I know this is the for headphones, but I will try my luck.
I mainly game with headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X) via my Audio Engine HD3 because of the ease to change volume and overall sound quality, but I've noticed a lot of crackling and popping on certain high sounds.
I tried my other headsets (Sennheiser Hd 380's and Sony XM3) and the same happened. This also happens over Bluetooth and wired connected. I moved the speakers away from my PC (to eliminate possible interference) to be on their own to test and still the same can be heard. So I thought then it could've been the headphone input and even on the speakers I can hear it when I increase the volume.
I guess it indicates there might be an issue with my Audio Engines, so my question is should I look at something else, in that case what would be recommended?

Do you specifically want another solution where you have speakers with a headphone port? It might be slightly better to get a separate headphone DAC/amp combo with a volume knob for your headphones. And then either plug the speakers straight into the PC, or if applicable, the line out on the headphone amp.

See below for recommended amp/DAC options - I am just not sure with these if you need to unplug the headphones to activate the line out, but that isn't a lot of effort.

For which active speakers to get, look at the Edifier range, I have heard good things about them.

Is the iFi Uno available in SA? I know the E10K is; I've used it myself and it's a great little device:: FiiO - E10K-TC - USB DAC & Headphone Amplifier - Latest USB-C Version (In Stock) (E10k)

Also currently the iFi Zen DAC is on an openbox special at Audico for R 2 990: iFi Zen Dac | Award Winning DAC & Headphone Amplifier | South Africa | AudicoOnline.co.za That is a great price and theoretically a step up.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I think your solution will be better than to buy speakers with a headphone in port and keep it seperate like that, thanks for the recommendations as well :)

Guys I want to get a set of wireless earbuds that will be used solely for gaming, yes I know I know. . . I've used a kz wired set and come to the conclusion that buds are the way to go for games.
What options are out there with really low latency? Had a look at the Asus cetra and the latency is a problem. I use Samsung buds+ and the latency is horrid there as well

I got the Nothing buds on OneDayOnly (interestingly enough they're on sale again today) - they claim to have BT 5.0 which would be your best bet for low-latency over bluetooth. Still noticeable to me in like fast-paced fps, but less noticeable in other genres. If nothing else, the price is appealing!

60ms latency according to the specs.

Came across a few options (not available locally):

Logitech G Fits
Creative Outlier Pro
Soundcore VR P10
JBL Quantam

The Soundcore and Jbl both come with 2.4ghz dongles which should drop latency significantly. Leaning towards the Soundcore so hopefully local distributors bring these in, otherwise I'll be ordering off Amazon

Crickey! Look at the price on them Logitechs!

Agreed with the 2.4ghz. The bluetooth audio latencies just isn't quite there yet for FPS type sound. (I'd imagine @superrob would have a heart attack - he is Mr latency).

Really feeling the JBL's but I mean the Anker looks up to the task, haven't used their products but it seems the consensus is they are bang for buck.
Fortunately I dont play fps games or anything competitive, I dont need to hear footsteps across the map, a good stereo sound is all I'm after and I'll EQ if its not flat enough for my liking

Hey guys! I'm in the process of purchasing a FIIO K5 pro from a fellow carb member. Stupid question but I'm looking also at purchasing some JBL 305p speakers SBR PRo Sound, JBL 305p MKII
Using the right RCA cables I should be able to connect it to the FIIO device?
I think I might need the following cables Adam Hall Cables to get it to work with it.

Yes, that should work. Although you won't be able to control the speakers' volume using the knob on the K5, I think you'll either have to use the dials on the backs of the speakers, or the volume in Windows.

Thank you very much for an insightful replay again. Is there a better way to handle this so that I don't have to reach the back of the speaker or using windows but rather just the dac amp itself?

Uhmmm I guess you could do something that somehow splits the headphone output on the front of the amp into two jack inputs for the speakers? You'd probably need to get creative with adapters and things. And you'd need to unplug your headphones each time you wanted to use the speakers. But it could work, and then the knob would control the speakers' volume.

Else you could get some sort of mixer or something, run the line out RCA from the K5 into the mixer then use the mixer for volume.

But yeah your two pieces of kit aren't really designed to work with each other, there is no completely elegant solution.

Unless I'm missing something obvious, which is certainly possible.

Thanks so much for the feedback. So what I've seen this video How to connect studio monitors/speakers to a tv | JBL 305p mkII to Hisense smart tv , not sure if it's applicable
actually maybe I need a stack to facilitate this.

That basically is the same as your first idea. It won't solve the volume control issue.
Thanks, okay I know what I'm in for , but for headphones and the DAC / AMP it's fine
I just need to switch off the speakers.
are there edifiers that would suffice?

Do you mean Edifier speakers? Yeah they have a range of quite nice ones, and they might be better suited for your use-case, as their input will be more straightforward (I think it's usually 3.5mm AUX in, so you'd use an RCA-to-3.5mm cable from the line out on the K5) and they also have their volume knobs on the front (and I think they come with actual remotes).

You might find their sound quality doesn't quite match the monitors. But that depends on how picky you are about such things.
