Dibs when you sell in 3 months [emoji16]

Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk
I predict it will take a lot longer than 3 months so don't hold your breath...Stax tend to be for keeps.

Nevertheless, congrats on a fine purchase! First impressions are mandatory and awaited.

Ok. It's not in SA yet but the current damage:
R6700 for the Stax.
R640 for AGS.
Customs 🙈

If I told myself that I was going to spend over 7 grand on headphones in my High school years:

I mean, my most expensive purchase then was the SR850 for R350.

latest arrival, something small for work.

so how do the P1 sound - have you compared them to any other IEMs?

i am personally very curious about these - they are around the same price as the KZ AS16 that i have but these are a different animal altogether ie planar in an IEM whereas my KZ are 8 balanced armature drivers per side

how is the bass response on these? is it weak or adequate and what happens if you apply a bit of EQ

asan example the standard bass response from the KZ isn't really great - there isnt much sub-bass but you can use a bit of EQ and the KZ handle it with ease if you do pick up the bass a wee bit .... but the strength of the KZ is that you have a huge soundstage ie not wide but it sounds as if you are wearing a much bigger headphone and the KZ gives you oodles of detail

Bass is OK, tight but not low as in the frequency you get in a woofer.
I replaced the tips with some comply ones I got from amazon a while ago and that did improve the low frequencys a bit as well as massively improving the comfort.
All in all very happy so far but I dont have a massive frame of reference.
IEMs I have owned
Samsung s8 AKG's (good)
Jabra sport pulse (good)
Skull candy (meh)
Beats (meh)
Old apple pods (crap)

These I would rate (in comparison to above) as excellent.
There's tons of details, and more than enough base.
I have yet to hear a earphone / headphone that carries the low frequency's as the old 17' MTX woofer I used to have in my car when I was in my 20's.
I would say base is similar to my sennheiser hd600.

Been using them vanilla, will tweak with eq eventually and see if it is better.
But so far , doesnt sound like it needs more.(early days), although my taste is for a neutral sound signature, ie Beats vs Bose, would choose Bose.

Hope that helps.

Ok. About 4-5 hours in with the Stax and my ears response:

@Deviation you said you may prefer HD800 to the Stax set. I have the exact same SRS-2170 set and started it up tonight with some Eva Cassidy that @capetownwatches suggested on a private chat. There is just something magical, almost ethereal about the effortless midrange detail Stax manages to extract. Off the scale emotional experience!

That effortless quality is achieved by the inherent sensitivity and responsiveness of properly designed and engineered earspeakers and the vanishingly low levels of distortion they are capable of. The SR-207 is an excellent transducer (regardless of price or position in the Staxen hierarchy - there is nothing entry level about them) which to my ears has an exceptionally well controlled high frequency response with no hint of harshness or grain. Off the scale price vs performance.

Yeah, in terms of details HD800 vs Stax, it's very similar.
When I do AB listening, HD800 just opens up the soundstage
and makes more relaxed listening while Stax makes things more intimate and exciting.

I listen to certain music more often since getting Stax'd. They are so good with Acoustic, Classical and Jazz, as well as female vocal. Anything that requires speed and space. Although the HD800 may be slightly wider, I prefer the Stax with these genres as I find them more natural in presentation but just as technically proficient. That said, they are always going to bring something different to the party as opposed to dynamic cans.

Of course when I want to rock out there is no substitute for LCD2s and lots of current... :)

If was super tempted by this set, as with Thomas's set earlier in the year. But decided not to bite the bullet.

I want to end my headphone journey on electrostats. Not ready to do that yet.

Don't think you should be worried about that at this level. Technical all are more than competent, you are just changing your preference.

I'm looking at the SR 009 level.
You mean Stax - I need a second mortgage - SR 009? RIP AC!DLeAk's wallet-kun. It's going to be empty till the end of time.

Yeah I intend for that to be my last headphone purchase. Don't want that to happen yet so keeping away from everything electrostatic that would tempt such a purchase.

The Sonoma One is also intriguing.
