Hi Carbies.

So very stupidly I bought the above mentioned gpu locally from a guy in Potch but due to not having a pc at that stage I was unable to test it.

Finally got to testing it but got a nice surprise, the gpu appears nice and tidy and starts and runs perfectly but as soon as you install drivers the fan speed shoots up to 100% I am not able to bring the speed down with afterburner and the cars is also not running at 100% it plays ark on 40fps on low settings and ultra 🙈. Apparently a flash should fix the problem but due to me not having a Gigabyte mobo vga@bios does not detect the gpu so that I can flash it. Any advice or assistance would be greatly helpful and super appreciated. Idk if there is maybe someone nearby that can flash it for me. I am also coming to pta tomorrow if anyone could assist.

Thanks all hope you had a good public holiday.

Guessing you want to flash the VGA BIOS for your card? You can grab the appropriate BIOS from TechPowerUp and flash it using NVFlash. NVFlash is a VGA BIOS flashing utility for NVIDIA cards which is installed with the NVIDIA driver, check Google for info on it's use. Make sure you have the right BIOS for your card before flashing or you could end up bricking the card. Also keep in mind that these are community contibuted BIOS dumps so there is a level of risk involved. That being said, I personally haven't had any issues using these BIOS files on a few of my cards, but as with all things, exercise caution. I suggest using GPU-Z to take a backup of the existing BIOS which you can hopefully revert to if something does go wrong.

Thanks a mil that really helps alot I I'm positive I have the right bios file I used gpuz together with Maxwell bios tweaker to optain the info and to create a backup of the current gpu bios. I will give it a try and see how it gows🙏

It does have a different flash then I'm use to do you mind if I post some pics of the process just for some advice if it looks good haha really don't want no light weight plastic brick. 😁

Or if you're not sure. You can load up GPU-Z and click on the button "Look - Up" It will take you directly to the model of GPU you have on the TechPowerUp site. TechPowerUp

Thank you yeah I have the right model however abit unsure about with bios to upgrade to and the bios flash also consist of 2 bios flashes one one 1 dvi the next one on the second dvi

I see, if there's a YouTube video on your card being flashed or some forum post. Do check it out for understanding/info. Otherwise, we wish you the best of luck. I am sure it will be resolved.

Can you share a screenshot of your GPU-Z info page?

The image doesn't seem to be loading correctly but you just need to be careful that you have the BIOS for the exact model of your card, manufacturers often release multiple SKUs of the same GPU so make sure you have the right model. There may also be multiple versions of the BIOS available for your card, sometimes the community mods these to set a pre-overclock or modify fan curves. My suggestion is to choose the latest non-modded version that you can find, there should only be one. A good guide on using NVFlash can be found here: How To - How to Upgrade Your GPU BIOS.

EDIT: Earlier I mentioned that NVFlash was installed with the driver, that's not true (it was late and my brain stopped working) but you can grab it from here: NVIDIA NVFlash (5.715.0) Download

Got a flash done it would appear after the flash I'm getting good clock speeds now at least but fans still running very fast

Great to hear that you've had some success! Judging from the Afterburner screenshots, your GPU die temps seem to be good under load so it is odd that you're still getting high fan speeds, it could just be that your card has a really agressive default fan curve, although if they're ramping up to 100% at those temps it may be indicative of a bigger problem.

You could always try repasting and replacing the thermal pads for the memory and VRMs if you're comfortable with that kind of thing, its not that easy to tell if you're getting good heat transfer with those components as I don't think there were user accessible temp sensors for the memory or VRMs on 900 series cards.

If you're not noticing any performance issues I say leave things as they are. You should be able to manually define a fan curve in Afterburner if it bugs you.
