What I want to find out from other gamers in SA is what ISP they use, and are they happy. I am on an Afrihost uncapped business account and this video pretty much sums up my current experience. https://plus.google.com/…/+LintonCaldeco…/posts/CfLw7NJmvjK…
all the lags in the whole world.
Afrihost claim they have loads of people gaming on their network without issue. I am in CT and the guy I play with most often is in JHB, we are both on afrihost, he has a capped account, I am uncapped business. We both experience the same issue. Also, if anyone is on snowball wireless, what is your experience with them. 10mb uncapped for R1000 seems pretty good.

Im on Afrihost capped - have been having bad international pings these last 2 months. Logged an issue with them on 30th of December, today they claim they need tests from another ISP before they will acknowledge the issue. Told them that I will have another ISP by the end of the month, right after cancelling my contract with them.

Their support system that doesn't allocate a ticket to a specific person is on of the most annoying setups I have EVER had to deal with.

My ping went from an average of 190 - 205 to the UK up to 240-250ms (tested multiple servers, the issue from tracert was definitely within the mtn stack it bounced on). Currently slightly improved to 220-230ms, but it still is quite noticeable in online fps gaming.

Did a trial account with WebAfrica a month ago, it was flying compared to Afrihost.

I am with Afrihost (10mb home uncapped) and i can safely stream while myself and my cousin both game on our line.

The international pings have been slightly higher than usual but hover around 220-240. (I came from telkom to afrihost so for me that is good)

1mb premium uncapped from mweb with Zero issues. Also on telkom do gaming but I have issues at month end with Telkom

I used to use a backup Incredible 2mbps account if latencies were spiking on Afrihost, haven't touched it in 2months

FPS and MMOs international with no problems

Switching to Crystalweb come month end. Mweb the gaming isn't bad but the uncapped threshold is so low you may aswell have capped account. If you get to 110GB on 4mb Home Uncapped line you get throttled to 30kb/s

Vox Telecom 10mbps line + 500 gig fatpipe :) best experience ever period.

Been with Vox fat pipe now for 2 months and I can't believe what I was missing all this time! Moved over from a 4 mb business account with Afrihost which was really terrible for gaming. Vox all the way :)

...thats a lot of porn

Afrihost uncapped. Gaming is flawless for me. However when I use Mumble in conjunction with gaming when their shaping is active things go to hell. Then I switch to my WA account.

When no shaping is active everything is aces.

I can't get a 10mb line, because telkom.
I have to find a solution that allows for streaming of certain red logo streaming services who's legality is a thing of argumentation, for my wife while I game.
Anyone use snowball wireless?

you can say netflix hey.....

I have 4Mb ADSL with capped data @ Afrihost and we can stream & game at the same time - using Hulu which is a bit heavier on the bandwidth sauce too.

On uncapped you might have shaping issues. Oh, and if you want decent quality video on netflix whilst gaming.

It also depends on the game - some are light on bandwidth, more reliant on speed / ping, whilst others are bandwidth hogs.

Business uncapped is supposed to be unshaped, unthrottled.
It makes little difference if my wife is streaming at the same time, often there is lag while she does, often there is lag while she doesn't.

Afrihost I have personally proven wrong time and time again that even their business pacakges are shaped. They only portion that is not shaped is the business ide of things -email, http, etc.

eventually the acknowledge this and started stating that non essential services are shaped during business hours and network load depending.

Its Afrihost - They will shape. And if they don't shape, their network has issues.

Business Uncapped is prioritised, but still has shaping to some degree. The only pure unshaped product is Capped. I have seen time and time again that Afrihost shape streaming etc on uncapped. Hell, I have had what clearly appears to be shaping on my capped account as well at one stage, which they obviously just deny.

R1485.00- 500 gigs of data unshaped(no uncapped packages on this network)any data you don't use in a month rolls over forever :).

10meg adsl line @ R425.00 per month.

2k?!? in total...granted it is unshaped but dam!

Problem is I pay about R800 all inclusive and pull about 800gb a month.

will stay with my ISP

Well, with this ongoing complaint afrihost promises they will get back to me today with regard to my latency issues. The guy helping me is very efficient and friendly, I have had good service from him. Honestly I hope the resolve the issue cause their client zone dashboard thing is top notch, and their service is good. But in reality I am expecting them to tell me it's not the afrihost network and a whole lot of other things... and how amazingly ground breaking their network is.

It isn't their network. They refer it to MTN to look at their network... Seriously, owned by MTN, but make it sound as if it is nothing. Then 2 weeks later they will ask you to proof the latency issue using another ISP first before MTN is willing to accept it - I have the mail trail to prove it.

Also - WHAT is up with Afrihost service center software not keeping a ticket assigned to one person. Every time I reply someone else replies back and no one ever really seems to take responsibility or care about closing a call as it isn't theirs to close. This system is a joke and leads to so much inefficiency.

I use Mweb with the standard uncapped (softcap really) 4meg line. Playing CS:GO, Insurgency, DOTA2, Diablo 3, Borderlands 2 (to name a few). My standard ping is sub 20 on local servers, between 190 and 220 on UK\European servers and about 300 - 320 on US servers. I usually play Insurgency on the US servers (Play with mates in the States) and despite the 300 ping I do not actually notice any lag.
