The crashes seem random. I could game fine for a whole day then the next bang an hour in. Monitors go dark, sound goes brrrrrr, PC reboots. Although the screens remain black, I only know it's back on the login screen because of the Windows startup sound so I have to manually turn it off and on again. I'm assuming the GPU or maybe the PSU is the issue here? How can I be certain what's at fault.

GPU xfx 6800xt Merc 319
PSU Super Flower Learned III Gold ARGB 850W
CPU R7 7700
G.skill 2x16gb 5600mhz
1440p

Bought in July but haven't done any gaming until late last month.

I'd suggest checking event logs for errors. Also ensure that your gpu has two separate per plugs into it and not the daisy chain one. Make sure the cables are all seated correctly in the gpu as well as psu side.

I had similar before which seemed to be linked to the pcie cable extension I was using. Funny enough also a Superflower but the 650(?) Silver modular one. Reseated all cables and the issue went away.

Only game restarting my machine is Battlefield 2042. Also random durations of time though. I have also been playing MW2 and cyberpunk without problems. Only have 16gb ram so not sure if that's my problem.

try updating your drivers... if that doesnt work, see if you can have the GPU tested in someone else's pc

Sounds like a power draw issue, I would test reseating the cables as suggested above, or try and get a different PSU to test in your rig.

This. I Had a similar issue a while back, turns out my psu was tripping my pc in Cod Mw2019, got a different brand unit with the same specs and the issue went away, if you have a friend who can help you test with his psu i'd try that.

It's currently connected with a single split cable. Hopefully that's the issue and 2 different 8 pin cables will fix it. I'll reseat the cables in the process 🤞

Yup had the same issue , definitely psu ,replaced mine and problem was resolved , drive me mad , stress tested every thing in my pc , last component was the psu , did not have a psu tester , just tested with my friends psu and did not have the issue , so replaced and no more weird random pc reboots wile gaming especially warzone

It wasn't the PSU 😫. Got a bigger ATX3.0 one and the problem persists. I gotta be the unluckiest mf on the planet. I'm gonna send the GPU back

Try different peripherals, i had a usb keyboard malfunction causing the same problems.

Def hardware issue, narrow down by switch up parts (not easy but that's what its going to take, borrow parts from friends)

Might want to check out ram, i had a similar issue with my Ryzen system running ballistix ram, changed to vengeance pro haven't had an issue since, see if you can borrow a stick somewhere to test

In regards to this, I see you have an AMD card. They do sometimes crash on certain games, regardless on whether they work on others. Normally with driver updates over time the crashes become less

Ok replacement GPU came in. Left it running at a known crash spot for 30 minutes. No crashes! So far so good. I'll play for a week and if there still no issues I'll mark this as solved.

Interestingly the old card maxed out out 256W power draw, this new one hits 270W.
