Since the guy gaming on wifi closed his thread, I'll just post this little tidbit here.

If you live in a complex, chances are that there are a few wifi networks running in close vicinity, and the chances are that they are all running the 2.4ghz band. So if you can switch to 5ghz, do that, if you are limited to 2.4ghz like me, then changing your channel is the next best thing. I switched from channel 1 (4 networks in my complex were on it) to channel 11 (no one else on this), and my wifi experience already feels so much more stable.

Enjoy!

Excellent advice.
When I had to buy a new router I specifically searched for one that is dual 2.4 and 5ghz. One of the best buys I've made in a long time.

The 2.4 band is getting more crowded every day.

Right now I'm actually looking into a modem that is dual band and supports wireless ac.
Wireless AC on the 5ghz bands is apparently lightning fast!

5Ghz band has shorter range so it depends on the size of your house. I am using a Netgear Nighthawk which is far superior to the Asus I had. I also find that Broadcom Azurewave based Wifi adapters have better speeds and range than the Intel 7260 based ones. Please note this is MY EXPERIENCE in MY HOUSE. The best performance ie stream BLURAY ISO's without a hiccup involves setting up two AC routers in Bridge mode. Speeds upwards of 30 Megabytes a second IN MY HOUSE. Again this is my personal experience and testing .

I can has dis Android app called Wifi Analyser. Basically you look like one of those poor fucks on the beach looking for treasure. But your treasure is seeing what channel is free.

I am on channel 9, my ssid is "chnl 9 is mine". :p

Hahaha!! Yeah, forgot to mention the Wifi Analyser app, although he mentions it in the video... ;)

5Hz is terribad just FYI ...

Great if the devices are in the same room , but for penetration it's awful - Higher frequency = shorter wave lenghts = bad for range and penetration.

Upgraded my Wifi @ home to 5ghz , next day took the kit back, had worse range on the extender ;(

Ok how about this, if you live in a STUDIO apartment, use 5ghz!! If not then find a less congested 2.4ghz channel ;)

You can read the customer reviews/forum threads about the unit yourself.

I'm saving up for the Dual Band AC AP :)

This post is not a good enough reason to use the word penetrate twice alongside that avatar. :p

Haven't had a great experience with ASUS routers, even though I hold them in high regard with their PC components.

If you have an android phone, install wifi analyzer on it. You can use it to check the channels which other wifi networks in range run on. If you have an iphone, throw that piece of shit away and flick your nut sack with your old blackberry!!!

:p

WiFi analyzer rocks especially if you're on 2.4ghz, if you need speed go with 5ghz, yes range is limited but it's so much faster.
Not many devices use ac I think so rather stick to n for know as it is much cheaper.

I agree. 5ghz is excellent if you don't go too far away. It's perfect in my whole house so you definitely do not need to be in the same room.
5ghz on a wireless AC modem is even better. Upgrading to one soon...
