Extending wifi to bedrooms and slightly further out of my property

Not an expert on wifi6 but from what I could find doing my research before buying was that the wifi6 can handle more simultaneous connections / streams. Also requires works better with devices that are wif6 capable, at the moment I think that is my phone only, but if I am going to spend that money might as well try and future proof it to some extent. Don't think it makes a difference in distance.

I'd recommend a mesh system, but be careful of unknown brands, have had lots of success with TP-Link and Tenda, will include links to the ones I have used before.

TP-Link is usually my favorite, both these units are easy to configure with their respective apps.

Cool thanks man. Does WiFi 6 make a massive difference in terms of speed and distance? I also see you get WiFi 7 now. Sheesh.
To make use of Wifi 6, the connecting device (phone, laptop etc) must be compatible, otherwise Wifi 5 will be used. :)

Thanks man, still curious as to how a Hap connects to this Mikrotik thing? I am going to use it. If i have it, might as well use it, right? And learn whilst I am at it.
Seems a bit antiquated though must be honest.

gooi those ax3 on a mesh :) sorted and the price is nice!
Yeah but look at his reason for selling. You little salesman you.

That Mikrotik seems like its just an access point, hence the 1x lan port.

Just upgrade its firmware 1st, so that you can get any security and performance fix's. :)

Ok, but what cable goes where?
Hap Ac2 has power and a PoE input, with 4 Lan inputs, Mikrotik only has 1 LAN. So i dont know how to get the Mikrotik power and network access at once.

Both the AC2 (also a mikrotik product) and typical point to point / AP bridges such as the SXT range or the LHG range from mikrotik are all poe input, so your power and data delivery is done via the same cat5

Tenda is quite good and not to expensive and should meet your needs. I had an older ac1200 model and that router had some of the best wifi ranges out of all the routers I've had over the years. Currently using a hap ac2 I got from ISP which is not bad.

Considering one of these in the future

takealot

I checked the Mikrotik link you posted the other day and it states :

Sorry dude i am kak dof with this stuff hey.

I know what PoE in is. Not sure what a passive PoE is.
I have a little Ubiquity PoE injector with a Power port, and a lan port. Same one I am using to power the AP.

Sorry another dof question, but the patch cord that goes to my current router doesn't seem to be a feature in the Hap Ac2 I have. It's a little green patch cord thing that obviously gives you fibre? How does the Ac2 actually get internet? I don't remember having a patch cord at my old house. Come to think of it, this house has no CPE ........ huh.

No worries mate, happens to the best of us. :)

PoE has 2 main "flavors" namely passive and active, which essentially dictates the voltage output.

That green cable is fibre (often yellow aswell) . Post your Huawei router model (back / bottom of unit). For the existing Mikrotik, you will need to connect it via LAN cable to the Huawei router, as that Mikrotik does not look like it can do Wireless Repeater mode but I could be wrong, its quite an old model.

Unfortunately I have the twin router setup, the one vox supplied that's configured for the fibre in and then the hap it connects to share internet throughout the house. I will double check the config tonight, been up and running for +/- 3 years not haven't really played around with it in the last 2 years. Might work but not 100% sure.

I Know enough of network setups just to get buy, doing a project in April hopefully which involves allot of cabling and then access points throughout the house which I should learn allot more from.

The best thing about buying a mesh system via Takealot is if it doesn't do the job for you there's no hassle with returns.

I learned from bitter experience that fcking around with old schit trying to get it all configured and working just isn't worth the time, effort, and, ultimately, grief that I get from the rest of the household when everything falls over
