NB - Please only apply if you are a Linux orientated sysadmin. I know people are eager to learn and grow, and others are willing to change industries etc in these difficult times, but this position isn't such an opportunity for that unfortunately. You can see I call a spade a spade so not to waste time or give people false hope, as I know there are young inexperienced people that are eager to learn. We need someone that is experienced as a sysadmin as we've got a lot of work to get through so need someone to hit the ground running so to speak. You don't need industry knowledge per se, perhaps you've got a decent home lab and taught yourself or have certs that replace the general work experience, which is acceptable. I just want to to ensure that people who apply, don't waste their time as some people also spend time writing cover letters or following up only for us to decline them.

A simple and effective way I think of finding out if you've got the experience is by looking at the acronyms and nouns. If you know what they are, then it means it should be safe to apply. I hope this doesn't come across as condescending, but I know how desperate people can be when they are unemployed (been there) and want to ensure we find the right person as well.

Company website (outdated): Brief company background: The employer is one of the major South African FNOs with strong consistent double digit growth since acquisition in 2015. Product portfolio incorporates wholesale FTTH, FTTB, NLD and IP transit services on a national scale. Heavy investment into infrastructure rollout and improvement ensures that there is constant growth of the network in terms of scale and relevant technologies to offer industry leading coverage, pricing, customer automation tools and more. While the business grows, we're very fortunate to maintain a small company feel and exceptionally strict governance and controls to reduce risks and ensure proper management.

High level projects include network expansion to 100 and 200GB transit routes, a national terrestrial dark transit network and many other exciting projects which are driving business requirements and internal projects.

This constant demand for improvement, highlights the need for an individual who is able to communicate well, keep track of a vision and assist to translate that vision into project deliverables and ultimate completion. We've got like any IT environment technical debt which we need to work through, but we're in a fortunate position to have the capital to make bold moves and use the correct vendors and technologies to solve our problems. We're looking for someone to join the team to assist in this process.
