Hey guys, posting this because I think others could be affected too in the future.

My friend who isnt tech savvy bought a evetech bundle with a Ryzen 2700X and an A320 board.
He had troubles with it for months not knowing what was wrong and not being able to swap out components.
Eventually I go visit him and see that the board doesn't support the 8 core CPU and hes effectively been choking his CPU this whole time.
I contacted support and because its past 7 days there's nothing they are willing to do.

Just a really shitty thing that he went through that I can seriously see happening again. A lot of casuals buy those bundles expecting them to be compatible (why its in a bundle) and a power issue like this is something most people wouldnt catch.

Thats shittech for you...
In their defence, its like putting super high octane in the worlds slowest car. Octane is wasted, as is the CPUs boost clock, but you can do it.

Honestly, I appreciate this post and you have my sympathy.
This is one of my concerns, that you buy a bundle thinking that they have checked compatibility, only to find out that this is not the case.

So in what way is the board incompatible? Do you mean in the sense that an entry level board that doesn't overclock isn't appropriate for a high end CPU thats overclockable? No doubt the power requirements of the CPU must tax an entry level board but was there instability etc?

Also, was the purchase less than six months ago?

I had a customer who works with Data Analysis contact us regarding issues with his Dell G5.

The device just completely refused to boot into windows or any other media I attached (Linux distro's, Hirens, Acronis recovery)

Turns out he bought the laptop from Evetech and this is the Third time in 6 months that he has had problems. Found out later that evetech sold the laptop with 64GB RAM to the customer. The laptop only supports a maximum of 32GB of RAM. Had to go through dell support and they ended up replacing the entire unit.

Now this could be due to the device just being a dud, or that Evetech overspecced the device more than it can handle.

Moral of the story is Evetech doesn't care about compatibility or about what their customers are buying, they just want to force more hardware down your throats and maximize profits, damned the compatibility and consequences

I stand to be corrected but the 2700x requires 105W and the board has a single 4 pin cpu connector that only supports 65W. Asus A320M-K

It had classic power delivery problems. Screen not turning on, inconsistency in booting, getting into windows and actually doing something. Instability started a few months after purchase if I remember.

We swapped all components besides the mb & cpu and screen didnt come on. Put all his components back, drained the power completely and got the screen to work.

Was in August last year so unfortunately not :/

Really is a crappy situation to be in, but all you can do now is look forward.

2700x is on the list of supported CPU's for that motherboard.
Any chance he/you could check the BIOS version. 2700x only validated from BIOS ver. 3803
