Hey guys / gals

So, I have an emby server set up on a PC at home.
Local streaming works perfectly, remote streaming not so much.

Can anyone please help me around Pretoria ?

All required ports are open on my isp's router as well as my mesh system,
all streaming options are enabled.
My isp also doesn't block those ports

At the moment , my isp's router is connecting to the ONT.

My mesh network plugs into my isp's router and distributes from there.

The PC with the EMBY server on is plugged into one of the mesh nodes

Bump!

Any help will be appreciated, can be remotely as well.
Can compensate if need be as well

Hey is there only an issue when you stream local or when you stream external?

Are you able to access everything else externally eg. Cctv, any home automation etc...

Externally I can access CCTV, but that is on a different interface.
Uses it's own app

How are you connecting from the remote end? Are you using a VPN into your network or are you going via a dynamic DNS service like Duckdns or Noip to access your Emby server?

To access my Emby server from outside my network I had Noip installed on my router with a hostname pointing to my server on port 8096.

Hi @KirenG77

Im trying to use emby connect but thats not working.

Could you possibly assist with the NoIp on my router etc method?

Yes, I've been through that.
Under WAN it just gives the address, when I try to look up the ip it can't be found.
All ports are open everywhere

Have you configured a dynamic DNS service for your home IP yet? Because you don't make mention of this at all.

If your mesh is TP-Link, they have the free tplinkdns.com resolver. Because for your Emby app to connect, it needs to know where to connect to.

The steps, from top to bottom:

1. Configure a Dynamic DNS resolver for your home
2. Firewall ports opened on the router to the internal network interface hosting Emby
3. Emby streaming enabled
4. Configure Emby client/VLC/Web URL to hit the Dynamic DNS hostname
5. Stream home made porno
6. Sell access to streamed home made porno
7. Profit

I have tried the DNS route, still can't see it outside my local network.
Or connect or access it via emby connect

Could you run me through this or forward a guide ?

Ok, So I am getting one step further.
CGNAT has been removed and I now have a static IP.

I have created a DNS server via No-IP

Internally I can now access the DNS server whereas previously I couldn't.

canyouseeme.org still shows an error for port 8096 although the port is open everywhere, firewall, mesh etc.

Can someone please assist

Thanks in advance!

Have you tested it and tried to play something or just checked via that website if the port is open?

I have tested it via the emby app, just times out and says can't reach server.

Then did the canyouseeme website to check if the port is open, whereby I seems it is still blocked.

Have confirmation from isp that IP is now static

Lets check if what they say is true, check the WAN IP on your router and then Google "what is my IP" just to make sure.

if the double NAT is removed now, you should just be able to enable UPnP on your router and it ought to dynamically sort itself out.

If thats works then you know you have DST-NAT issue. You can disable UPnP (its not save to leave on) and play around with the port forwarding rules.

I'll try and play around.

Maybe I just need some network genius

You shouldn't need a networking genius, there must be something you didn't do.

Easiest way to check is turn your firewall off and on the router add the PC running the server to DMZ and test, if that works you did something wrong previously.

I don't know anymore.

I have the DNS via NO-IP set up to point to my public Ip, then on my router I have the DNS set up to point to my local server address.

I have had the firewall on or off, makes no difference

Obviously at this stage it feels like I am missing something, maybe someone can just anydesk and have a look

Why don’t you try installing Plex server just to confirm if it’s an issue with your network or an Emby issue?

Basically, install Plex, make sure the relevant port is open and then try to access it remotely. If it works, then it’s an Emby issue.
