Yeah, dem HD600's are good but you'll need a proper DAC to enjoy them.

Heavy bass is good, wide soundstage and natural frequency response are more important. Closed cans required.

Check out the Sennheiser Momentum. They fall in the price bracket you are looking for and are closed headphones.

The AKG K550 can also be a very nice closed headphone with those big 50mm drivers. I see Audico have them on special.

Check out the head-fi site, they've got a load of great headphones second hand (even some in the 10-20k range) and many will ship them here. Tried out the Philips fidelio X1's recently and they were amazing sounding but for your budget you may want something even better.

I contemplated Head-Fi, but I'm not keep on importing a second hand item of that value as I won't be able to try them out.
