Hi Guys. Hope everyone is doing well. My official PS4 controller stopped charging last month and is completely dead. I've been toying with the idea to open up my generic PS4 controller, to see, if I put it's battery into the official one, if it's only the battery that needs replacing. Looked at some videos on YouTube and it seems fairly straight forward to open up the controller and take out the battery (although I'm still weary, don't want to sit with TWO none working controllers). If indeed it is the battery that needs replacing, can anyone recommend a good retailer where I can buy a battery? I see the ones on Takealot get rubbish reviews, so am not keen to get those.

Do it. If you break it, I'll pay for shipping to me and personally repair it.

You gotta risk it for the biscuit

That's pretty awesome of you man, thanks. I'll give it a shot and post the results tonight.

Okay so I opened both the official PS4 controller that is dead, as well as the generic controller, and unfortunately the batteries are NOT compatible with each other (generic one has a large white tip at the connection compared to the official one). Also when I opened up the official one a piece of plastic fell out where the light bar is (see attached photos). Not sure if it's SUPPOSED to be loose like that, or if it's broken off. Anyone know? Also, anyone know where I can get a GOOD battery (preferably 2000 mAh as the one that comes with the official one is only 1000 mAh) please?

Dunno if you came right but check Xmods (not affiliated) - they're pretty jacked.

So I believe that it is NOT the battery of the controller that is faulty, but the CHARGING PORT, as I have read that the controller will still on if connected via cable, despite a dead battery. I have had a look at the Xmods website and I see they do indeed sell a charging port for a PS4 controller, but I am hesitant to order it and do it myself eg. if it's THIS one I need for my controller (I have a PS4 Slim):
