Hi custom loop lads and ladies

Short version is my pump's started a very light ticking.

Did a bios update on the mobo and obviously lost my fan profiles, was fine and as soon as it picked up speed it started ticking and hasn't stopped since. It's a super light tick and i only use the pump at 20% speed but I'm obviously scared it's going to lock up and leave me without a PC while i replace the pump.

Is it possible its anything else aside from the bearing or am I SOL and just need to replace it?

Fluid looks clean as well with no growth or anything so i don't think its that it's clogged or anything similar.

What's the frequency of the clicking? (How many clicks per second?)

Definitely not normal for a pump to be doing that. Has something maybe had a chance to settle in the pump while it was off?

Not that i can think, the loops not really been opened since it was filled in April/May

I've got the clear blue mayhems fluid in it which doesn't seem to be able to separate or have any sediment either. I washed the pump out today with some distilled water just in case as well but still no luck getting rid of it.

Feels smooth as butter when i turn it by hand but i can't turn it at 2k RPM either

Yeah

Quite fast, bearing most likely, unless some foreign material got inside the motor or bearing

Are you able to strip it to inspect?

It's not pronounced so something (bearing/small washers/spacers etc) may have shifted

If you can strip it and perhaps push the bearing in (find a round tube or pipe to push the bearing down equally in the inner or outer ring) and blow out the motor (compressor, if you have one), it might fix the problem

Will give it a shot

Moved the PC now and it went away when lifting the back, rotating the other way makes it louder so its as if its scrubbing

Its mounted sideways/90° but I can't imagine it matters as I've seen it in so many builds

That actually does make a difference with bearings especially since the bearings (balls?) rotate inside a raceway and can cause the bearings (balls?) to go off the raceway. If 2 fall out you will seize a bearing over time since it now has space for more bearings (balls?) to fall out and create a jam somewhere which heats up and fuses with the rest of the bearing. If one falls out you will hear a slight noise

If the bearing is an open bearing you can basically ghetto fix it by trying to squeeze the balls back into place.
If it's a sealed bearing, you kinda have to use this time to source another bearing before it fails

Also, discontinue use in this state.

^ If you can't/don't want to strip it and try a DIY fix, at least position it so that it has the least possible friction inside, but there WILL be friction and it WILL get worse over time

Thanks man noted

Will try strip it now and see if i can get it fixed
