What would be the best purchasing option for me ......
I currently house sit & move between my house and my gf's place quite often - Not keen on the hastle and risk to move my gaming pc everywhere.
What would be the best solution for this - Console or handheld ? and why

I'd consider whether you have an existing library already. Handheld has the benefit of if you already have games on Steam/GOG/Epic Games and then there is a cost mitigation. This also carries over to future Linux/Windows devices where you don't have to buy the same stuff again or pay for "next-gen upgrades".

Another factor is if you play online. Are you comfortable with having to pay for online functionality through PSN/Xbox Live/Nintendo Online?

The factor of PSN/Xbox live is something I did not take into account - thanks for that

existing library is something that plays a big part yes - biggest concern there is title compatibility and battery life on the handhelds - I have quite a big epic games one with all the free stuff they give and most of my daily played ones are on steam

What handheld has the best Battery Life / Tittle compatibility / performance balance ?

Rog ally x for the best battery life, if you're willing to tinker with winlator and use GeForce now, I'd recommend the odin 2/ RP5, Excellent battery life and light. I've seen that the steam deck has the better battery life, especially when playing indie games/ emulation. Depends totally on the games you plan to play, if it's a triple a game from the last 4-5 years. On the Rog ally z1e I could get maybe 45 minutes to an hour on high performance. I think with the steam deck maybe Even more

You can also look at a gaming laptop for more oomph, and then you can do work on the laptop too

Have you considered an ROG Ally with a Dock and a controller? Sometimes when I am lazy I just dock my ally to my TV and couch game.

Better still is when you are at home you can stream to your Ally from your gaming pc and play just about anything you want.

Seems like the ROG Ally might be dealers choice

If you have the money for it I'd suggest getting a gaming laptop purely because you'd be able to get more performance, rog ally x is also good as well as the lenovo legion go. The screen's quality and size is why I chose the legion go over the ally x. But both choices are good.
