Hi,

whats the best way to connect a PC to an AV receiver wirelessly?

My computer and TV are in two different rooms. I am planning to buy a new AV receiver and speakers. This would be placed in the living/lounge room along with the TV. What do you think will be the best possible way to achieve this ? The budget is not that high so will mostly buy a second-hand receiver which may not have Bluetooth on it.

First thought was Bluetooth receiver connected to a 3.5, but it's not reliable if it is in a different room and can the quality of most Bluetooth receivers is shit.
I already have an MI tv box, I have Kodi player installed and it can access files on my computer, but again I want something I can control from my computer, I sometimes play around with virtual DJ.
Maybe I can use some screen mirroring software?
The MI tv box and computer connected with a LAN cable (just thought was worth mentioning)

How about a realllllllllllllllly long 3.5 to RCA from PC room to the AMP?

Bluetooth is definitely out of the question.

that is most likely going to be prone to picking up noise and will most definitely reslt in a loss of fidelity - i would rather send a long HDMI cable so the signals remain digital until the destination and are converted when they are received (on paper seems like a better bet) ..... i was using a 20 metre cable to send audio and picture from the HDMI matrix unit from room into the lounge so that i could share the sources from that room into the lounge and because it was a matrix unit i could play any source into any TV either simultaneously or independently - and i used an Ellies infra red remote blaster to send remote control signals to the lounge - so i could control the sources from either room ie directly in one room and via the blaster unit in the other ..... the whole setup worked flawlessly but nowadays it may be a bit more complicated if your TVs are all Ultra HD with HDR because the required HDMI cable may become very expensive

What is the cable running distance from your TV to your PC? Is your TV 1080p or 4k? HDR? If you’re running, say 15-20m 4k HDR then you’re gonna need an 18gbs fibre optic HDMI cable. This will set you back around R1800-R2500. Anything less on the above specs and you can get away a bit cheaper I guess, but if you want to future proof, then fibre optic is the way. I bought a 20m Unitek fibre optic HDMI cable to run from my PS4 in my games room to my TV room. Worked like a charm. Cost me R2500 at the time.

so an HDMI cable from the graphics card to an AV receiver ? will that pick up audio ?

Lol my budget for the entire setup including the av receiver and speakers is around R7000. but I understand your point about future proofing it. How about a really long optical cable from the computer ?

yes - HDMI also will transmit HD audio as well ie if you play surround sound movies with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Audio or even games which use those audio formats

you just have to set your audio in the sound settings in control panel to default to using the graphics card for audio as well and it transmits picture and audio over the one cable - i just sold my 20 metre HDMI cable for 500 bucks to one of my buddies (the normal price on it is around R1600)

but yep as Scottulus Maximus suggests you are probably going to be better off using one of those casting devices - i just find a cable to give far more stable signal transmission rather than any form of wireless or streaming ..... but thats just me and those casting thingamajigs will probably do the job you originally envisaged

I love wired connection too, but just dont have the budget to implement it at the moment. The MI box and my computer is already connected using a LAN cable to the router so that should help when casting.
Just dont know if the sound quality will be good enough. Or I will just have to invest in a receiver that supports wirelss audio, Like this one R-N303 | Balanced Audio - Yamaha AV . A friend of mine purchased it in India for R4200, cant find it for that price here.
