Exactly what the title says, I’m looking to make a purchase in the next few months.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

One of my family members has the Chev.
Hasnt ever given her mechanical problems - but the interior finishes in the car (the dash, steering wheel, gearstick and mechanism etc etc) is HORRIFICALLY cheap and nasty.... Hard textured plastic EVERYWHERE ... honestly ... feels like they collected used clover milk bottles, compressed them down and made them a dashboard.

The only reason we got it over the NP200 was because the Chev was a 1.8l and we needed the extra torque.

You should see it underneath :D

I had the original corsa bakkie and i regret selling that car almost every day, went to see the chev utility on launch and its not close to it at all, company i work for bought 1 and have had the displeasure of driving it around a bit... 0-50000km was ok 50 000 to 100 000 was not so great but 150 000 to 180 000 was another story. that plastic moulded cabin was falling apart and the car sounded like you were shaking coins or stones in a tin cup a very thin ,light tin cup.
Granted i never pilled on all 180k plus kilo's but the time i spent in it was not pleasurable at all

So from the sound of things, seems like the NP200 is the way to go... I'm also looking at buying one of the two in the near future...

So there'll be no competition for NP200 going forward, since Chevrolet is no more in the country... No new Ford Bantam or VW caddy in the works?

Please fit in a tracking unit with GPS positioning also get a panic button and test it often , have a wonderfull day ...

Good - they were poor, low value for money, riding the profit wave vehicles. The USA equivalent of TATA ....

I’m actually very surprised by the responses here, the Chev seemed like a better value bakkie from my viewings and test ride...
So the Nissan seems to be the right choice but do I go petrol or diesel?

The NP200 uses a non variable cam timing Renault K4M engine, its not bad.

I'm also surprised by this. Of cos i dnt know whats behind or underneath it. I drive one daily, got it since new. I have no issue's with it. Of cos its plastic and "cheaply" built. But for the price it was I expected that. But it drives very nice. I drove a friends Np200 and its not as good as the chev. And said it himself his np200 is not as good as the chev.

Why is the chev so popular if its not that good, for its price range? Is there something better in this category? Maybe a Ford Ranger with leather interior, lmao?

I am not a big car guy/fan, but why don't Toyota join the 'small bakkie' design.

Everyone knows how reliable Toyota is and how good it keeps it value overtime when you sell it later on.

I mean there isn't a lot of competition out there and if Toyota can design a lekker bakkie with a competitive price I am sure they will own it.

I for one will be interested because a bakkie is way more practical compared to a car and not to mention it will be better suited for a male student's first vehicle.

That's just it, there isn't much else but at least the corsa bakkie was quality

The one aspect where the Chev is better than the NP200, is the smaller turn radius

The chev is not bad in my experience.

Great point. There's surely a gap in the market now, wonder why they don't go for it.

So I only got around to actual looking at Bakkies now and I kinda really like the ford bantam...does anyone here have experience with them? Anything I should look out for?
