It's only going to be 5 episodes, no more after this week. :ROFLMAO:
Waiting for the last one to come out this week then I'll binge watch them all. 😁

I really enjoyed the episodes thus far.

I mean if you play any of the games like Stalker and other games that reference Chernobyl you don't really fully understand how it became as it did .. well I didn't.

And just these last four episodes gave me such insight and understanding of how it happened and what it was about. Really gripping for such a short series.

The way how the show recreated events that happened gives a new view of just how horrible it was.
I always thought that radiation makes you ill, ........little did I know about the rest and how a horrible death it is. Those scenes in the hospital was just horrible. Doubt I will forget them any time soon.

Is it like 50:50 lead-up and aftermath?

Kinda interested in the lead-up so might watch but not so much in what happened after, I already know more about radiation poisoning than I care to from books and movies and the occasional NCIS epsiode, which yeah perhaps is dumbed down but it's already plenty horrific enough.

I finished episode 4 last night, it is extremely captivating and truly shows how loyal the people were to their country. It does get to the point where it is a little distressing, but that is one of the feelings they tried to convey being based on a true event and how much of horror the people have endured. They've really earned my respect!

More like there's an occurrence in the beginning of episode 1, and then the story starts as a build up towards that occurrence.

I've been fascinated by Chernobyl since I first heard of it in the early 90's. Been researching it and the series brought forward some truth that I could never remember finding.

Damn well made, grim and gruesome, and with the latter episodes showing the reality of it all.

This one will easily fall within the quality and ratings category of Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

So then it's basically all lead-up? Why are people are talking about hospital scenes then?

Not sure if it was loyalty or fear ?
Definitely fear... To understand this you need to look further back in history and at communism and socialism and the role they played in causing the worst atrocities in the history of mankind (and I am including the Nazis here). If you can stomach it read the gulag archipelago.

When a country starves and kills 20 million of is own people it gives you insight into how they would treat a nuclear meltdown. In these countries the individual is not sacred, the state trumps all.

The occurrence I mentioned wasn't the explosion, something much later. Don't want to spoil it for anyone, so rather watch it, it's really worth it.

Plus, it's ratings just topped Game of Thrones. That should tell you something

Great show.

Btw, if any of you (like me) got a little upset with all the different accents and thought the show would've been more captivating if they just attempted a slight Russian (*Ukrainian) accent - I googled and came across a bit from the creator:

“The decision not to use Russian accents was a big one that we made early on. We had an initial thought that we didn't want to do the 'Boris and Natasha' cliched accent because the Russian accent can turn comic very easily. At first, we thought that maybe we would have people do these sort of vaguely Eastern European accents - not really strong but noticeable.

“What we found very quickly is that actors will act accents. They will not act, they will act accents and we were losing everything about these people that we loved. Honestly, I think after maybe one or two auditions we said 'Ok, new rule. We're not doing that anymore.”

Got a small amount of respect from that because the acting was exceptional - really added to the suspense but it was difficult to get over it at first.

Ratings don't mean much to me. Can't stand Breaking Bad (high ratings) but I loved Forever (presumably low ratings considering it was canceled).

In that case at what point does the explosion happen and/or how much is there after and before?

There is no pre-explosion/build-up to the event at all. The show starts minutes before/during the meltdown. There is an investigation arc that runs through the episodes as to what exactly happened, but this is in the aftermath.

Thanks. Pity. I thought it was going to be a re-enactment of how things went wrong based on the results of the investigations.

So like ep 1 things are ok, ep 2 things still ok but the first signs something may be wrong, ep 3 things definitely wrong and ends on warning klaxons, ep 4 booooom and everything immediately after, ep 5 external help starts trickling in, ep 6 aftermath and investigation starts.

Not sure I'm interested anymore.

Not really. There are only 5 eps.

In short the explosion happen in ep 1. Then 2 - 4 is aftermath, how people are effected, how they tried to contain the disaster etc. Then ep 5 is about the hearing and you get a better explanation as to what exactly went wrong and who is really to blame for the disaster.

Just watch the show then. Just the first episode even. You don't have ~40 minutes to see if you like it?

Thanks. Hmm don't think I want that. Guess I'll stay away then.

For those who did know, the character Ulana Khomyuk, was not a real person, but one that the show introduced as a way to combine the team of scientists and experts into one character.
