I was wonder if those cell phone accessory and repair shops normally fix phones with genuine parts, I'm looking to replace the screen, back cover and battery for a Samsung S8 plus. I got a few quotes as I've been to a few different shops and they range between 3k and 4.6k, weFix wants 4.3k just for the screen, I haven't even asked Samsung yet.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Even if you were to get it repaired by those guys, you're still going to pay around the 2k mark if not more and there is a possibility of them f'ing up your phone.

Used Cell Clinic for my S9 last week (3.6k) - really good service, and phone feels brand new now. From pickup to delivery back to me took only 5 working days.

S8+ is about 4.1k,gonna do the wife's next month - worst case scenario is we sell it for slightly less when(if) she upgrades.

Buy the top glass from ali express for A few hundred bucks, either replace it yourself (tricky but achievable) or take your new top glass along with your phone to one of those corner store indian/Pakistani places and they'll do it for you for around R900

I tried both options before and can recommend option 2.

What makes these so expensive; is it the curved/edge screen?
I've replaced an iPhone 7 screen last year at a stall in the Montana Family Market for around R700. The guy even threw in a screen protector as part of the deal. It's probably not OEM parts used, but I certainly can't tell the difference.

Actually - what makes it so expensive are greedy South Africans putting a massive markup on cheap stuff. Most often the top glass just needs replacing but people will rather bill you for an entire LCD and top glass replacement at a few grand even though your LCD most often is intact. It's an easier job replacing the entire LCD and top glass and way more lucrative for the repair shops. They also score in the sense that they get to keep your intact LCD and re-use/re-sell it down the line thus doubling their profits.

Just the nature of the beast I guess. Sometimes backyard or even DIY fixes for such things are the better option. Sourcing these parts are relatively easy. DIY on these sort of things aren't for the feint hearted though.

I think this is the manufacturer's fault. when they started gluing the LCD to the Digitizer..

Replaced my iPad screen in Fordsburg. I wish I had my cracked screen instead of a "new" fake glass. So I would not risk repairing unless it's much cheaper than the item.
