hi all

I have an HP Probook 4720s, with it comes a fingerprint scanner a BIOS locker and other security tools, Recently I had a HDD crash and after replacing the part I had to reinstall 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate .

now to the problem, the drivers that run the security tools all run through a nifty gadget called HP ProtectTools Security Manager. and i used the Disc that HP supplied me with to re-install all the drivers, however during the final leg of the installation i got a pop-up massage that read as follows:

ERROR 1720. There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A script required for this install to be complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel(who?) or package vendor (cause they have no idea either). Custom action CopyBootstrapper script vendor error -2146828218, Microso... (<--- it ends like that)

click ok to continue

the install then rolls back the process and tell me that the installation was interrupted (thank you captain obvious) click finish to complete installation. Then the gadget pops up in the top-left corner of my screen with a constant error stating:

Service unavailable
The RPC server is not listening

Thank you for reading this whole thing and in advance to your answer

Service not listening? Maybe it attempts to install a service?

Try installing the software with administrative privileges (Right click, run as admin).

Or your Windows Installer package is a little old.
Try getting the new one off the MS website:
Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows Installer 4.5

And see if it solves the 1710 issue.
