Does the CO2 auto pierce when you pull the trigger or does it need to be pre punctured?

Both. If you pull the trigger in with the safety on, it will pierce but not fire. But if you pull the trigger with safety off, it will pierce and fire at the same time. With the latter I believe the fps is lower since it's doing both, but still packs enough punch. I used it once with safety pierce then fire. Hope this helps!
