I'm looking to get my first car but if I'm honest, I'm clueless about cars in general.

After looking at Webuycars for a few months, I recently found this Toyota Yaris 2011 with essentially no flaws for 85k.

With noone else to ask, I was hoping someone on Carb may be able to guide a young first-time buyer like myself and provide their opinion on the deal, their opinion on the car, or their opinion on a better alternative.

IMO don't thouch a car from we buy cars. Toyota is a good car but my recent experience with a Toyota left a super shit taste in my mouth and I will never in my life recommend one ever again.

Like mentioned on 1 or 2 other of these advice thread is the Mazda 2. We had 2 so far, one for 10 years till it got written off in an accident. In that 10 years my wife did 250000km and all I ever did was services, brakes (4 times) and tyres (3 times). Absolute pleasure maintenance wise and super light on fuel while having nice oomph for a 1.3 16v vvti.

Not sure if you took a look at the defects in the Dekra report, some relevant to roadworthiness with signs of respray too?

Thank you for the warning. That's exactly the realism that I appreciate. What issue did you encounter? And what is your reasoning for not liking webuycars?

The respray appears to be caused by the degraded white caused by the sun, and not an accident. And the Dekra doesn't look too bad. Tires and headlight fuse - Hence why It caught my interest

The front lights yellowed but the bottom one looks new. The bumper doesn't align, fit properly with the lid. That's a sign of frontal collision with bumper and lights that's definitely been changed.
The left door seems to have been replaced.
10 years for a mileage of 112 000km. More likely than not its been changed. Most people do about 20k per year.

saw an add that showed a "pristine" car, for a decent price and low mileage.
Salesman said nothing about any damage on the car.
Went to go look at it(120km trip one way), got it there and it had dents and scratches all over.
Minor stuff, more a case of incompetent driver than major accident.

I got pissed, started a fight and they negotiated a price that aligned with what I would have had to pay to repair the car.

I wanted the car, so I took it and they promised it was recently serviced, fresh tires and brake pads.

A few months later I noticed two of the doors are different colors and had been replaced. They never said a thing.
Took it for a service shortly after getting it, gearbox seal was leaking oil. Cost me a brisk 13k to replace. They never said a thing, and said the 8k warranty they sold me doesn't cover it.
Took me months of fighting just to get the paperwork from them. First person said they'll courier it. When I called again they said I had to go collect it from their branch. Rinse and repeat.

EDIT: I know I was stupid, but it was my first car. So now I know.

They sell crap, period. Like 90% of their cars has issues, and they tell you the issue and you have to then fix it and in the process you sign away your right to take the car back should something break within 6 months.

Also like everyone pointed out that Yaris look like it was in an accident or 3.

My toppie bought a Toyota Auris from a reputable dealer (He was a diehard toyota fan) and they covered up the fact that the gearbox was on it's last legs, sure enough within 3 months the clutch actuator gave in, what a mission it was to get them to fix it, forward about 10 months futher the gear actuators packed up and the dealer just pulling up their shoulders now saying it's past 6 months wara wara. Tried to get the car fix and everyone says only toyota can fix that gearbox. So car was towed there and a quote of R62000 was given to fix it. So yeah screw Toyota!!! "The MoSt F#£kInG ReLiAbLe CaR oN eArTh" My toppie ended up losing the car after the idiots at the onbutsman didn't know how or what a multi mode transmission is and how it works. (Rant over)

That's very good insight that I appreciate. I rate i should rather continue saving, and give it a skip. Thank you for the insight.

Would be interested to see other horror stories of webuycars. Could save others in the future like Evetech threads.

Those MMT's are always problematic. In all honesty he should have avoided it and rather gotten a true manual or an Auto. The MMT is just an automated manual so converting it to manual is pretty cheap and really easy, that would be been about R47000 cheaper than fixing the MMT.
