Hello Carbonite!

I'm looking to upgrade from TV speakers to something better.
As always, budget is tight
5.1 would be nice, but not a must.
A decent 2.1 would still be a nice upgrade
Thing is... I'm a n00b so I don't know much beyond "Logitech is good"
So I've poked around YT and FB marketplace and I see the Z333 looks really nice and YouTubers give it the thumbs up.
If i can get a Z607 for like R800, that would be... Banging :)

Item Wanted: 5.1 or 2.1 speaker set in good condition
Packaging Essential: No
Desired Age: Doesn't matter, as long as its in good condition. But let's say < 5 years
Location: Ideally, Woodmead/Sandton/Midrand and surrounds
Willing to accept a shipped item: Not preferable
Ballpark/Budget Amount: R800 for 5.1, R450 for 2.1

I should have added one thing...
I do want it to be a nice upgrade over the TV speakers. So, even though my budget is low, I do want something decent for the money

... which is why I came here :)

How are you looking to hook them up? over aux cable/bluetooth/toslink?

My PC (which is permanently connected to the TV) just has the 3.5mm jack ... If i do find a 5.1 to fit the budget, I expect I'll need a, new sound card.
I thought about asking for a 5.1 with the DAC built in to the system (maybe connect to the PC via USB?) but I am sure that won't be within my budget.

Hey man are you going to watching the TV in a “normal” size room or are you watching close on a desk? I ask because if it’s a room, then the small Logitech type speakers will sound very thin, light and metallic. And if you push up the volume, you’d then get distortion.

Also it seems like you want active speakers, as you don’t have an amplifier. So I would recommend you saving a bit and go for a decent sound bar instead. Or even so decent powered bookshelf speakers….. see it as a long term rewarding purchase rather than a stop gap solution.

Thanks for the reply ... I really appreciate you taking the time.
But now I have new questions...
What kind of budget I should be aiming for, and what should I look for in a decent sound bar?
What I've seen from basic Googling and watching YouTube for the 2.1/5.1 is that I'll probably need around 8W for the satellite speakers and 15W for the sub. If I see anything in that range, then I go look for reviews for sound quality. My tv speakers are 4W each.
I've given up a bit on the Z607... And I've been hunting a Z333, Z506 or X530 on FB/OLX/Gumtree

You’re welcome. I would probably look at around R2000 as a start. You could join the AV forums (AV forums) and look there. There are usually some decent second hand items that get sold there for good prices.

I would also look at the Edifier range of speakers. Like these (Edifier) for R2100. They are a 21 watts each so 42 watts in total.

Also the power output really doesn’t mean anything in terms of loudness or sound pressure, as it is very dependent on the type and sensitivity of a speaker, your room size, seating distance and so on. For example, I have a 60 watt stereo amplifier, an 80 watt one and a 5x200 watt amplifier. And I’m my room, each of them deliver incredibly loud and clear music/sound so you can just consider watts.

Actually… I just remembered I have a set of old Logitech speakers in my garage…. You can have it as a solution for now.

Sent you a DM you about those speakers. Thank you x100000000000 for the offer.
And I'll look into the options you mentioned... Waiting for admin approval of my AV Forums account.
I definitely saw the words "Edifier bookshelf speakers" somewhere when I was Googling, but i just thought it was some insane "audio snob" brand that we don't even get in SA :)
Thanks again

I have a hisense Soundbar new in sealed box if you are interested. Will drop you a pm.

Speakers collected and connected. Works like a bomb. Even on 2.1, its already much than the TV. Will get even better when I can get my outputs sorted to use the full 5.1.
