Hi I know its a strange request since everyone is looking for top of the market phones, but I'm looking for a phone with buttons still. Its for my dad he currently got a blackberry 8520 and battery is on its last breath and the phone buttons had it days. So I'm looking for a replacement for him to buy as a present.

Hey Bud just a heads up. I did a complete refurb on a BB Bold9900 and that included literally everything (Full case, brand new oem lcd, buttons and scroller) for just on a R1000. Rather refurb the 8520 for your dad. at least there is no data loss or transfer of data/contacts.

Look into it, use it, don't use.. Just my 2 bob worth.. LoL!

My apologies for hijacking the post. I just want to find out that where did you refurbish your phone? I'm looking for this kind of service for a friend.

OP: Good luck with hunting the phone. It shouldn't be too bad to look for a semi-decent BB now a days.

Bought all the parts brand new on BOB (all parts came to R795 including shipping), watched a Youtube tear down video and it is literally back to brand new. I'm keeping it as spare cause my wife has a habbit of dropping her phone and refuses to place a protective cover.

Lol, thanks for the info, much appreciated. I'm thinking of keeping my 9790 as a spare as well, but damn it needs some touch up.

to tell the truth I don't have much knowledge about that, and is it really worth doing that on a BB 8520? that phone is old - slow etc... The mute(unlock), sound on the side buttons all gone phone is bout 3 - 4 years old... And money wise it seems more wise to buy another

Agreed, it would probably make sense to get another 8520 as they are only worth about R600.00, but then you also don't know what you buying, could be stolen, data loss when setting up again, and this way, you know that IMEI numbers match and everything is original to the main board. My refurb was for a BB9900, which is a higher model (touch screen with buttons) so I'm sure the parts would be even cheaper for your 8520. All the buttons you mentioned are actually cosmetic (part of the case) which is replaced when changing the complete housing, this also includes the built in speaker/mic and button pad too.. It really is worth it. Not to sure but I think we have some 8520's laying around at our office that our reps used to use and are in very good condition. If they are still in the safe, I will PM you, I'm sure that they will never be used again so will organise one for free, at least you know its not black listed etc..
