At R100 per day income, difficulty increase, i dont see you making a profit.

Also please not that this is IF bitmain dont release another miner 4 x faster than the current machine (like in the past) during the next 326 days, then the difficulty will jump much higher.

If you unlock full usage with dual Mining you will use close to 120W per card. If you limit the power and don't dual mine you use 70W per card.

They function very similarly but are separate 'currencies'.

Yup you can and it will be fine even with dual mining, limit the 1060s to powerlim 70 using afterburner. prob one of the best cards for mining them 1060s, best power/money/hash ratio

I have a bit of capital available and this seems worth while.

Do you guys actually make money? I.e if I setup a 6 card rig what can I expect pre and post elec per month (I know that is influenced by btc price and exchange rates).

Can I use a normal motherboard assuming it has enough pci slots and what card would you recommend. Seems like most new cards are lhr… is there a way around that.

Lastly, what about a service like NiceHash … seems easy but how much profit am I giving up?

I think you are a little too late to this party. 6 months or a year ago would have been ideal and you would have got back your initial investment and most likely an additional 70-100%.

Ethereum only has a few months more for mining unless pos is delayed further. Once ethereum mining stops, profitability on other coins will also drop as all the eth miners will move over to other coins. It’s no guarantee but that’s likely to happen. Even eth is about 50% as profitable as it was at the start of this year.

Other issue is GPU prices are still insane and stock is hard to come by. Decently priced cards are either gone in 60 seconds or scams.

You can go to NiceHash and check the profitability. It’s fairly accurate but there’s again no guarantee what prices will do in a months time. I started off using NiceHash and then slowly moved over to Ethermine. I used both for about 6 weeks with half my hash power on each and didn’t really notice too much of a difference. Some days NiceHash was better, some days not.

With the above being said, if you have a gpu or intend to get 1 for gaming, then you could mine with it. Doesn’t really hurt.

If you are still set on getting a rig, you will find them occasionally being advertised at roughly more than what people paid for them

I have a gaming pc, running a 2070super. Would it be possible to add a 2nd gpu to my setup to maximise my current hardware (assuming the psu can do that?)

If your case, psu and board support it, then there’s no reason why you can’t. I have PC that has 2 pcie x16 slots and have 2x 3060 in it.

Most PSU 750w and above will have 2 sets of pcie power connectors.

As you can imagine this requires a lot of power so I have to figure out a way to minimize our power usage.
