Bitcoin at an all time new high.

So who here actually held onto their coins and is about to make a killing? Where's Zizzy?

If I had kept my 10x BTC I had a month ago, I'd have broken even and made a good amount of profit.

Anybody here buy any when they were sitting at $300? I thought it was madness at $300 :/. How does one play with something so dam volatile!

You haven't changed your mind about your farm? Did you sell everything?

I kept my original farm, sold 1x pc, which I'm regretting now as LTC has become highly profitable again.

Dude, tell me about it, I was considering buying BTC when it was $80 a coin!

Just thought I'd put this here :

FAQ - Bitcoin

Bitcoin.org said:
Why do people trust Bitcoin?

Much of the trust in Bitcoin comes from the fact that it requires no trust at all. Bitcoin is fully open-source and decentralized. This means that anyone has access to the entire source code at any time. Any developer in the world can therefore verify exactly how Bitcoin works. All transactions and bitcoins issued into existence can be transparently consulted in real-time by anyone. All payments can be made without reliance on a third party and the whole system is protected by heavily peer-reviewed cryptographic algorithms like those used for online banking. No organization or individual can control Bitcoin, and the network remains secure even if not all of its users can be trusted.

Senshi on a side note, are you making a profit over and above your electricity bills with your farm?

With Litecoin trippling in value, Yes I am very much making a profit.

Currently I'm making around R10k a month with my current setup, minus R2k elec costs :)

With bitcoin standing at 900$?

Anyhow, What has brought the value to rise so high? The Chinese entering the market?

I don't mind Bitcoins unfortunately, I've been debating purchasing an ASIC for a few weeks now but have yet to make up my mind. GPU miners (such as myself) will only mine Scrypt based coins as there is no profit in Bitcoin (SHA-256) based mining since ASIC's have hit.

The chinese entering the market has had a very good impact on the value of the coin, but I doubt it's the only factor. Speculation, rumours, news, world economics and of course buying/selling power over the market influence it just as much.

I think the rise is because of Silkroad 2.0 :D

Yeah, could be that too but I wouldn't say/post much about it, specifically because of the illegal wares surrounding it. I prefer not to engage in any talk about it as I believe that's not what Cryptcurrencies were created for.

So i think i have 1BTC from back in 2011 when i thought i would just try it out :p

Should i sell it now! :)

That's the one Bitcoin you bury way way deep for 5-10 years, patiently waiting for $1,000,000/BTC.

When I told my mother over the phone how much these "virtual coins" are worth she pointed out that they are worth more than the few Krugerrands her father gave to her :/.

Maybe a silly question but do you forsee a rise in value for ltc? Obviously not as drastic as btc?

Bitcoin and Litecoin are inherintly linked, as BTC rises so does LTC.

Litecoin has gone from $2.5~ to $9~ in the space of 3 weeks.

So I should try get back on the bus then? Never really got going to begin with.

If you want my honest opinion, unless you have a GPU mining farm/ASIC already, there is more money to be made in speculation/trading.

I'm trying to move away from the mining perspective and get into trading but due to the limited amount of buyers/sellers in SA it makes things hard.

Yeah, i came to the same realization, maintaining a farm is a mission, it becomes another job that most days its just too much to even bother with
