Bikers!?

Most of what we said of the parallel twin regarding you personally was said in jest. You need to have thicker skin than that dude. It is not 'mind boggling'. It is just a few of us taking the piss. None of it was said to cause real offence. Clearly you've taken it much more personally than what it was intended. I'm sorry you took it that way. I will stop.

Regarding the actual argument at hand, the statement still holds true: A parellel twin is probably the most boring layout of them all.

SV650 vs ER6 vs ZX6R... You've ridden enough bikes to know that 0-100 times means next to nothing. Any self respecting road machine should be able to get into the low 3s. Actually riding those 3 bikes? The ZX wins by far, followed by the sv then the most boring of the lot; er6. 🤷‍♀️
OK bro.

Anyway, to divert from the argument

I have an opportunity to buy a Honda XR650.
Forgot to update those that might've wondered, I did not end up taking it. There were a couple of things wrong with it, and compared to my friend's "identical" bike, this one was much harder/unpleasant to ride.

But I have however realised something: I am scared of a clutch on two wheels 😂
Once I was moving it was like riding a bike, pardon the pun. But just pulling away, slipping the clutch, that's something I'd have to go and practice until it's as natural as in a car. Maybe it's time for an inexpensive delivery bike :p

Lets do a brekkie run on Sunday? haha

Parallel twins welcome haha

Anyone up for the Annual Poppy Day Run on the 10th?

Leaving from Red & White Joburg clubhouse, as well as from Red & White West Rand clubhouse. West Rand - arrive from 08h00, stands up 09h00 - 09h30.

Kawasaki ZX6R 2009 - The superbike with i4, producing 58.2Nm torque, 80.3kW of engine power and accelerates 0-100 in 3.22 seconds.

Might want to check your specs.

2009 ER-6n: Kawasaki ER-6n

2009 SV-650: 2009 Suzuki SV 650

Both the aforementioned agree with your specs.

2009 ZX6: 2009 Kawasaki ZX6R

ZX6 should read 66Nm & 94/98kW.

Interestingly, both the ZX6 & the SV-650 show better fuel economy than the ER-6! Who would've thought?

Also - I Agree with the black & white bear - loads of tongue-in-cheek, try not to take things so seriously!

Anyway,

To 1290 or not to 1290? I will live like this.

2022-KTM-1290-Super-Duke-R-Review.jpg
When my baby duke grows up .... thats the dream even the tamer 990 Duke will also probably satisfy the upgrade bug that is already there.

I want something that dislocates my shoulders on launch. 😆 V4 streetfighter or that 1290.

That said, I think the new 990 Duke is a fantastic motorcycle. I hate that they share the same designation as the legendary 950/990 of old. But hey, it is what it is.

Fair enough! But what do I do when I get to a corner?

I ground pegs on the original 2,3 litre Rocket I had as a test bike for a week. It cornered surprisingly well, I just needed to be very firm & deliberate with bar inputs!

Going back to the parallel twin stories.....

I guess we are all in agreement then. As Trompie said: Parallel twins are probably the most boring engine layouts to ride.

I'd almost forgotten - back in 2009 we did a comparative test for Top Bike.
Triumph Tiger 1050 - inline triple
Suzuki V-Strom DL 1000 - v-twin
Honda Varadero XL 1000 - v-twin (actually the old VTR Firestorm motor with some minor changes)
Yamaha TDM 900 - parallel twin

Image below, going from right to left, showed how 4 different riders that rode & evaluated them over a period of 2 weeks, rated them.
Evaluation included tar, dirt, commuting and 1,000km days with a mix of tar & dirt.

So it wasn't just me that made the statement!

I guess he was tired and you were like, LETS GO! hahaha
hahaha , apparently driving as slow as we did its not that comfortable on that bike , have to say eventually my wrists got sore but i guess that is just me not having spent a lot of time on the bike yet ..

See if you can get an older 400. They generally easy to learn on without being so slow that you wanna replace it in a few months.

I also wanna start off roading but not sure if i should get a cheapie off road bike + trailer + fit a tow bar on my car.
or trade in what I have for a dual sport.

if money was not an issue i would have a long distance cruiser, mid sport bike and an off roader.

Have a look at an X Ramp, I used it have one ages ago and it worked pretty well.

I defo can look into that, I saw this the other day but thought the guy was using a bicycle rack!
They're very compact, depending on how it fits onto your car. I used to off load my bike, unhitch the xramp and put it into my boot (so it couldn't be stolen). So much easier than pulling a trailer everywhere.

LOL!! you need to smash a 600 on track, nothing like that screaming beast to put the fear of god into you.
I have never been more scared on a track then when I was riding Steven Odendaal's World Supersport spec yammie R6
Must have quite a day out on Odendaal's track R6.
Had a quick look he has achieved a lot so far in his career.
Sorry for the year later message bomb.
